Happy Birthday, Ronald!

Four score and six years

I opened my computer, took a quick look at the Challenge, and discovered it was Ronald C. Flores-Gunkle’s birthday. Since it will soon be midnight, I didn’t want to let the day slip by — especially since Ronald is older than I am.

At 83, I’ve reached the age where I’m often the oldest person in the room — unless I’m with my husband, who’s older than I am.

My favorite of Ronald’s stories is one he wrote recently about what he would do if he had just one year left to live. It wasn’t about checking off a bucket list or chasing one last adventure. Instead, it reflected the heart of a contented man — I would even go so far as to say a grateful man, grateful for his wife and grateful for his life. Gratitude is a wonderful legacy.
