A Brief Timeline of Satellite Images of Darfur Sudan’s Destruction

There are many wars, but this one is so horrific it can be viewed from space. In this article, we look to the heavens to unravel what is occurring.

By comparing time-separated satellite imagery, conducting visual analysis, identifying new surface anomalies, taking measurements, and mapping patterns at scale, a clearer picture begins to emerge.

These are not single images. This is a pattern repeated across time, location, and structure.

What follows is visual forensic analysis using open satellite data and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT).

Destroyed Villages

As the warring factions of the rebel Rapid Support Force and the government Sudanese Army Forces carry out a bloody show of force over gold, drugs, race, gender, power and religion. Civilians are caught in the crosshairs of advanced weaponry. Farmers. Villagers. Shepherds. Entire communities.

Entire towns, gone.

Endur, Sudan is one of those towns.

Kass Old UNAMID Team Site & Helipad

The UN cleared out of Kass, but not without taking losses. Like most foreign assistance and powers. The UN prioritized their people first and left behind local employees. This is normal operating procedure for most international operations. The UN moved locations first to a safe area, then evacuated. But locals and some UN people and medical personnel where caught in the crossfire. This is the satellite visual evidence. Kass has also been a recent hot location for indiscriminate violence by the RSF.

The Kass, Sudan UN site is destroyed, gone, with possible mass graves next to its helipad.

Siege of El Fashir 2023–2026

When communications disappears, the ground records what really happened. But from above, changes accumulate and nothing hides from Space, from the eyes in the heavens.

I’ve been in a capital city (Kiev) when attacked, its not nice. The RSF has been taking over and controlling areas along Sudan’s A5 Highway. An easy way to roll tanks over the area. This highway and all the connected capital cities, plus connected highways and byways to other state and regional capital cities in Darfur have all fallen along this A5 highway. Taken over, attacked, controlled now as of April 2026 by the RSF.

The internet is highly restricted, overpriced unavailable to most and cut off to the majority in RSF controlled areas.

The situation in Sudan is beyond grim, like the grimist shiznit I have ever seen from space.

El Fashir Cemeteries Overfilled

The internet in the area and region as of writing is a nearly a blackhole.

How to estimate the dead when official numbers do not exist? Satellite imagery can be mighty helpful in these instances. Especially over time mapped to approximate counts.

This is only one of the cemeteries in El Fashir. The Timeline is from October 2022, before the Siege of El Fashir began until April 2026 after it “Ended”. A 500 day Siege folks! Some experts call it a Kill Box. I agree.

The media organization Reuters obtained up-close videos of another El Fashir cemetery filled. El Fashir officially has my vote for worst place on earth in 2026. Reuters ran an in-depth article on visual analysis of the city’s overfilling cemeteries which is definitely worth a read.

Barrier of Bodies

This is just plain gory and fills my head with sheer nightmares. The Rapid Defence Forces setup their berms, earthen based barriers. Effectively encircling the city in phases daring the over 500 day siege. Some experts have stated the RSF effectively setup a “kill box. ” I have calculated an estimated 5.69% of the 31 km RSF berm around EL Fashir is made up of human bodies per satellite images. Super grim I believe is an understatement.

Methodology & Limitations

Some data is not publicly available, other imagery doesn’t exist. Sudan was previously not a country highly imaged from space. For a variety of reasons. One is where the curvature of the earth hits the African content, that curvature causes an increased rate of image errors. Another, Sudan was not considered valuable enough for many space powers to invest in mapping and imaging.

• Percent implicated = mapped berm-associated burial length / total documented berm length × 100. 1.65 / 31 × 100 = 5.32%
