Kemendukbangga/BKKBN Selects MAN 1 Yogyakarta to Promote the Great Father Movement of Indonesia (GATI)

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — As Indonesia prepares to commemorate National Family Day 2026 on June 29, MAN 1 Yogyakarta has been honored as one of the official venues for a visit by the Minister of Population and Family Development/Head of BKKBN, Dr. H. Wihaji, S.Ag., M.Pd. The visit, scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:00 a.m., began its preparation through a coordination meeting with the Regional Office of Kemendukbangga/BKKBN of the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).

The delegation from Kemendukbangga/BKKBN Yogyakarta consisted of Dr. Mustikaningtyas, S.Psi., M.PH., Head of the Family Development Working Team, and A. Utomo Budi Santoso, S.Pd., Coordinator of the Youth Program. They were welcomed by the Principal of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, the Vice Principal for Public Relations, and the school’s public relations staff.

The visit was intended as an initial coordination meeting regarding the Minister’s upcoming agenda at MAN 1 Yogyakarta as part of the Great Father Movement of Indonesia (GATI) program. The initiative is included in the series of activities commemorating National Family Day (Harganas) 2026, which this year will be centered in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

During his visit, Minister Wihaji is scheduled to observe and engage directly with parents, especially fathers, through the Father Collects Report Cards Movement (GEMAR). The program is one of Kemendukbangga/BKKBN’s strategic efforts to encourage greater father involvement in children’s education and parenting.

In addition to the report card collection session, the event will feature a parenting seminar highlighting the importance of fathers’ presence and active role in building harmonious, resilient, and happy families.

Principal Edi Triyanto, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd. expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in MAN 1 Yogyakarta as the host of this national agenda. According to him, parental involvement — especially that of fathers — is an essential factor in shaping children’s character and future.

“Therefore, we warmly welcome the Minister’s visit related to the GEMAR program as an effort to strengthen the partnership between families and educational institutions,” Edi said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mustikaningtyas emphasized that strengthening family resilience requires the active participation of every family member, including fathers. She explained that a father’s exemplary role is reflected not only in major life events but also in daily involvement that nurtures children’s sense of security, confidence, and hope.

“Through this program, we want to raise awareness that parenting is a shared responsibility, and it begins with MAN 1 Yogyakarta,” she stated.

Sharing a similar perspective, Utomo Budi Santoso noted that father involvement in children’s education significantly influences the development of young generations because schools and families are complementary environments.

“When fathers are present and actively involved, children receive more comprehensive support to grow into competitive individuals with strong character,” he explained.

Through the collaboration between Kemendukbangga/BKKBN and MAN 1 Yogyakarta, it is hoped that the GATI and GEMAR programs will inspire communities across Indonesia to strengthen the role of families as the primary foundation for national development. (luf)
