Our party archives have unearthed yet another shameful page from the life of the Talmudic ghetto — the very one from which the grandfather of our Ilyich miraculously escaped. We are talking about the notorious law of “Shaatnez” (Maimonides’ Commandment №551) — that invisible noose around the neck of every working Jew.

The Dictatorship of Threads

Picture young Srul Moishevich. He yearns for knowledge; he wants to be a doctor. He scrapes together every kopek to buy a decent coat for his trip to the provincial capital. Finally, the coat is bought. Srul puts it on, feeling like a man ready to serve Science.

But on the doorstep stands the Rabbi with the “calipers of dogma.”

“Halt, Srul!” bellows the ancient law. “Is there not a linen fiber mixed into your wool lining?”

The Expertise of Obscurantism

According to the law of “Shaatnez,” mixing wool and linen in a single garment is “filth.” If your jacket contains even one thread of the wrong class — you are an enemy of the Heavens!

We witness a tragedy: Srul, a future medical scientist, is forced not to study anatomy, but to crawl along the seams of his own coat with a magnifying glass. Talmudic control crawls under a man’s collar, checking the composition of buttons and threads. Instead of thinking about the salvation of humanity, Srul is duty-bound to think about fabric composition. Is this not the ultimate humiliation of human dignity?

An Act of Liberation

It was here, on the soil of “textile terror,” that Alexander Blank’s final protest ripened. He realized: the Creator of the Universe cannot be a petty warehouse manager monitoring the weaving of threads!

His conversion to Orthodoxy under the name Alexander was, for him, the casting off of this rag-tag yoke. He chose the Freedom to wear what is convenient for a doctor’s work, rather than what an ancient paragraph prescribed. He washed away the “black dog” of prejudice and donned the white coat of Enlightenment.

The Dialectics of the Seam

Today we laugh at “Shaatnez,” but for Lenin’s grandfather, it was a life-and-death struggle. He tore those bonds so that his grandson could tear the chains of global capital.

Let the bourgeois scribblers whisper about the archives. We respond: Alexander Blank defeated Maimonides’ threads so that today we can weave the banner of the World Revolution from any material that serves the cause of the Proletariat!
