Frankly, expectations are the mood’s silent killers, and that’s true whether you agree or can argue with that.

First of all, it’s good and healthy to hope for or expect something, but the issue here is excessive expectation

Reality

When you over-expect, your expectations distort the pure reality, and turn it into your own version of reality, which might not be accurate.

However, since that’s your perceived reality, you tend to believe it’s true nonetheless.

Perceived Reality

But when things did not work out later, you realize that it wasn’t as accurate as you once thought it was.

That’s where you got hurt and overwhelmed by all the regret and disappointment.

When should you expect something

You should expect something highly when you’re very sure of its certainty. That is, you’re sure of its reality and are confident it will happen.

This helps you avoid unnecessary troubles

But how can you tell if something is real or not?

Something is real when it exists independently of our minds and continues to exist whether we believe in it or not.

Disappointments and the gap between reality and expectation

Many disappointments come not from reality but from the expectations we place on it.

When you mistake what you hope will happen for what is likely to happen, your expectations become harmful

And the greater the gap between your expectation and reality, the greater the disappointment.

Healthy expectations are grounded in reality, and they remain flexible,

Whereas excessive expectations often lead you to frustration because they depend on outcomes you can not fully control.

So yes, expect but aim for healthy expectations.

Have you very get disappointed because something didn’t work out as you hoped?

How did you manage it?
