Why do creative people struggle to commit?

Having many ideas feels like freedom — until none of them become a life.

We as humans have the ability to reach limitless ideas but lose interest so fast when we invest in them —

Was it supposed to be that hard?

Having many ideas is just a temporary relief that we still have the power of creativity, so we keep chopping ourselves bit by bit to satisfy it.

Many things take up our energy and at the end of everything we have nothing to show for it, not even one.

For instance you go into a store and purchase everything you love just because you feel that when you leave it behind, someday you might need it. Then when you come back again it’s gone.

So you pack everything home and now, no space for arrangements.

Your sofa and bed is occupied and the daylight rays could hardly pass through the curtains.

Everywhere is stuffy, you don’t even have a place to sit, you just stand and realize you barely need 80% of the things you bought.

You chose to have them out of fear you’ll lose them, but you never thought deeply how much you have spent on the things you want and wish to have rather than on the things you need.

We buy everything just to use nothing, the same goes with the way we have many ideas but nothing is established.

And I’m a victim of this.

In the past two years I kept on putting down beautiful ideas till I sat down one day and I had no single one growing with me.

Half of them weren’t even things I had control over. So I brought out my list and chose only three — the ones I could actually control and the ones flexible enough for my life.

For the first three months It was fun and easy to settle with, even friends supported me.

But here is the tricky part; from the 3rd to 4th month it got boring. My body and brain started asking for a change but I stood firm.

From the 6th month it didn’t just get boring but tougher to handle and maintain even though I loved them.

Besides, I started seeing more things about them. They didn’t keep up anymore — it was now my responsibility to keep up with them.

Some days felt sad to me and bitter when it comes from something you chose yourself.

You even start questioning if this is really what you wanted.

I know I loved therapy and software but that doesn’t mean I want to be a therapist or a software programmer, I just loved them.

And I will say yes, maturity also lies when you know when to walk away and find something else.

But it proves something today; that we spend so much time and energy creating things but they lose their spark when you sit with the discomfort of establishing them.

Not everything we enjoy is something we’re meant to build a life around.

Some interests exist to inspire us, while others are meant to become our life’s work.

It takes time, commitment and emotional control to keep up or leave.

So the goal isn’t getting committed to the things we create but growing the resilience and love to avoid drifting from the committed ideas we settle with.

But here is the fascinating part of it, you just don’t struggle and suffer when it comes to long term commitment, but it also reveals some part of you.

I always thought I was so disciplined and consistent till something you do with your free will hops in. Then how you treat them with no rule or system is exactly the reflection of how successful you’ll be independently.

Another advantage here; you can as well control energy leak, manage time properly as less things take your time, have more room to rest or pour into the things you stick to.

Your brain also starts looking for ideas that fit in with the ones you choose, and that’s quality over quantity….this is what takes us far in life.

You can quiet the brain for some time but you won’t stop it from functioning because it’s doing its work which is researching constantly.

Since you have picked your niche, the brain will add volume to what you’ve chosen rather than filling your mind with options except when you want to drift again.

So I hope we have seen how complicated human behavior can be sometimes.

It’s never a flaw or a misdirection to have vast creativity — it’s a blessing, but knowing how the vastness affects you and how to clarify what you need is the first consciousness.

A recurring theme in our lives is that lasting change doesn’t come from chasing every possibility — it comes from patiently building a few meaningful things over time.

So in this body, let’s learn to live and not survive in it.
