But then again, summer in Montauk has never exactly operated on normal rules.

This year, Montauk Yacht Club is doubling down on that dreamy, slightly absurd coastal magic by bringing back its Marina Music Series in partnership with Billboard and POM, transforming its waterfront marina into what may become the East End’s most talked-about live music hangout of the summer.

And honestly, it feels almost engineered in a laboratory to appeal to everyone who’s ever romanticized a Hamptons August.

The series kicks off Memorial Day Weekend and runs through Labor Day, turning the marina into an open-air concert venue where internationally recognized musicians and DJs perform against a backdrop of bobbing yachts, glowing harbor sunsets, and people pretending they “just threw this linen outfit on.” You can already picture the Instagram stories, can’t you?

The first wave of artists includes Washed Out on May 23 and St. Lucia on June 27, with more names expected throughout the season. Which means somewhere right now, a publicist is probably typing “surprise guest announcement” into an email draft while influencers begin emotionally preparing their wide-brimmed hats. And if last summer is any indication, the hype machine may actually deserve the hype.

The marina series previously hosted performances from Anderson .Paak and Neil Frances, helping the property evolve from classic yacht-club territory into something closer to a luxury music micro-festival with room service.

That shift says a lot about where high-end hospitality is heading right now. Hotels aren’t just competing on thread count or spa menus anymore. They’re competing on cultural cachet. And there’s a specific flavor of nostalgia baked into artists like Washed Out and St. Lucia that makes them especially fitting for Montauk sunsets. Their music already sounds like summer memories. Hearing those hazy synths drift across a marina while sailboats rock in the background feels less like a concert and more like somebody’s very expensive indie film. Frankly, if The Talented Mr. Ripley had been made in the TikTok era, this probably would’ve been one of the party scenes.

The partnership with Billboard also signals how seriously these hospitality-meets-entertainment crossovers are being taken now. Luxury hotels increasingly want to function as cultural hubs rather than simply places to sleep, and music has become one of the fastest ways to build identity. A good lineup doesn’t just attract guests. It creates social currency.

Montauk Yacht Club seems to be chasing something more cinematic. More transportive. A little old-school Riviera energy filtered through modern downtown cool.

And perhaps that’s why the marina setting works so well. Concert venues can sometimes feel transactional. You enter, stand around, and leave. But waterfront spaces slow people down.
