Tennessee Titans: 3-Round Mock Draft

For the dozens of Titans fans across the world, there’s very little to glean from media coverage. It’s either ridiculously boring or “Draft a TE in the 1st round” stupid. Here’s where I enter.

Only GM Jon Robinson truly knows how the draft will go down in Nashville starting Thursday night, but I’m offering my two cents for what I think Tennessee’s plan of attack should be.

If you’ve watched the Titans over the past two decades, you’ve probably noticed a lack of dynamic playmakers. It’s obvious. That’s why so many mocks have the team taking an unproven WR like D.K. Metcalf or Iowa TEs T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant. Hockenson is the only player resembling what Robinson likes in a player, and I have a feeling he’ll be gone before the Titans are even on the clock.

Even though there is a need for offensive firepower, in my opinion the bigger holes are on the defensive and offensive lines, plus outside linebacker. So that’s where I’d go in the draft depending on how everything else plays out.

Round 1: DT Dexter Lawrence, Clemson

This has been Tennessee’s biggest problem Tennessee over the past couple seasons. The team has improved the secondary tremendously and added some pass rushers, but there’s been nothing beside Jurrell Casey up front. The Titans added veterans Sylvester Williams and Bennie Logan in successive seasons to fill the gap at nose tackle, and neither worked out. I’d spend draft capital adding a guy like Wilkins that can help stop the run and prevent Casey from getting double-teamed nearly every play.

Round 2: OG Chris Lindstrom, Boston College

The major issue heading into the 2019 season for the Titans is keeping QB Marcus Mariota upright. The team has invested heavily in the tackle positions and added LG Rodger Saffold from the Rams this offseason. Drafting a plug-and-play guard like Lindstrom would set the O-Line up beautifully, and maybe the front office would be able to determine whether or not Mariota deserves a long-term, $100MM+ contract extension.

Round 3: EDGE Chase Winovich, Michigan

To even offer up possible selections for an NFL team, it’s best to take note of the types of players they’ve drafted in the past. Pass rushing is something the team has lacked mightily for nearly a decade. Winovich’s effort makes him the perfect Jon Robinson/Mike Vrable player, and he looks like a poor man’s Clay Matthews. Add him to the mix with 2018 2nd-rd pick Harold Landry, and the Titans are well on their way to competing in the toughest division in the NFL, the AFC South.
