She does not need permission to “choose”.

Freedom is an inherent right that is what should be the definition of “Freedom”. Yet, an ambiguous definition is followed by the society for the same word. To them , it is a gift which they handout when it feels ready. Today in many communities, a girl’s freedom to make choice is respected only when she is educated and financially stand somewhere. Which means her dignity is “conditional” while the truth should be , her dignity is “unconditional”.

Freedom should not be earned through achievements rather it should be inherent to her humanity. For instance, today in many families a girl who is denied to education and who is financially dependent often has no choice when it comes to deciding on important matters of her life such as choosing her career, lifestyle or marriage. Whereas a girl who is educated or financially independent finds her choice to be acknowledged. Now few of you would argue that even girl’s who are educated or financially independent faces restrictions. This is absolutely true and it shows that denial of freedom is not just about money or education,rather it’s a deep rooted society mindset. So, just imagine the struggle which is silently faced by the girl who has no such privileges. This shows how society ties freedom to external conditions instead of recognizing it as a basic right.

Though the constitution and human rights clearly states it as a right not a privilege ,still the society questions.

Some people argue “Isn’t education necessary for making wise choices?” No doubt, education helps refining choices but she still she has ‘the right to choose’, this exist regardless of whatsoever. Even an girl who has been denied of education knows her preferences and deserves respect. Many say, if a girl is financially dependent her choice will be impractical but financial dependence ‘does not erase her right’. She still can be supported without denying her right,which is the “freedom to choose”.

Denying freedom has various impacts such as, it leads to forced marriages and suppress individuality. Also, yes this is one of the reason for why divorces and violence from women is rising towards their spouses. It also keeps marginalized women voiceless while only privileged women enjoy autonomy somewhere.

I just want to remind every girl when something goes against your consent, do not accept it as your responsibility. Silence only strengthens injustice. Change is expected only when a voice is raised.

Girl’s freedom should not depend on her degrees or her bank balance. It should be recognized as a part of her humanity. Education and financial independence can strengthen her choices but they should never be treated as conditions for her dignity.

Choice may demand courage but freedom is a right and a right must be claimed not begged.
