2016 Mazda CX-9: First Drive

Mazda has made a significant move upwards, into the luxury car market, and the vehicle that solidifies Mazda’s commitment is the all-new CX-9. The companies dedication to a “premium feel” is immediately apparent, and the SUV has very pronounced, yet elegant stature on Edmonton’s public roads. Unlike the 2015 CX-9, the 2016 version follows Mazda’s Kodo design theme, inside and out.

It has more bells and whistles than a girl guides camping trip.

This is, of course, the first CX-9 to feature Mazda’s incredible Skyactiv technology, and it is certainly a welcome addition to their flagship SUV, as is the Kodo Design theme. The SUV is a direct competitor to the likes of the Acura RDX and it can certainly hold its own. The model we were given to test was the GS-L.

The GS-L is the base model with leather, an infotainment unit, and a heated steering wheel, so the Mazda does come very well equipped out of the box. In top trim, it actually features the most sensors of any SUV on the market.

It’s actually really an impressive car, and If 7 seats are your fancy, and you’re in the market, you should probably just go for a drive in the exact one we drove!
