We all have 24 hours in a day but some individuals do more work with what appears to be working less. The disparity can mostly boil down to that of time planning. Effective day planning does not mean you can jam-pack your day with as many activities as possible, but you should be purposeful about what you dedicate your time to.
- Start With a Clear Plan
Morning moods determine how the whole day is going to be. Rather than turning instantly to your emails or phone, take 510 mins to plan. Write out your priorities and which three things do you feel are most important. In this manner, regardless of how hectic your day becomes, you will have secured the core objectives.
- Use Time Blocking
Instead of trying to operate off of a never-ending to do list, schedule the tasks into blocks of time. As an example, between 9 and 11 AM, you should be especially efficient, between 11 and 12 PM, you can concentrate on meetings, and 2–3 PM is the time to do something creative. It avoids long-distance multitasking and helps your brain stay concentrated on a singular thing.
- Tackle Hard Tasks First
Your energy level is normally at its peak in the beginning of the day. Make that window work on the most strenuous work in. This is what Brian Tracy calls eat the frog in that it helps you start strong and prevents the tendency to postpone tough deals.
- Limit Distractions
Any new messages, notifications, or social media buzz break your focus and it takes time to get it back. It can be an idea to turn those alerts that you do not need to hear, try to leave your phone out of your workspace, or install some applications to block out distracting websites when you are at work.
- Build in Breaks
Efficiency does not imply working hard, it is working smart. Studies indicate that by taking small breaks, concentration and burnout can be enhanced. One of the effective methods is the Pomodoro method the gist of which is the following work 25–50 minutesand then rest for 5–10.
Final Thoughts
Managing your day does not mean you have something to do all of the time: this is about priority in matching your time with importance. With some forethought, prioritizing and safeguarding your attention you can accomplish much in less stress. The trick is consistency: using small daily habits builds up to significant long term outcomes.
