Nobody tells you this about structures...

Nobody tells you that structures can stand even though there is no visible support around them.

The ability of a structure to stand can be compared to the concept of a tree.

Do you know that a tree is one of the few natural elements that grow upwards and downwards simultaneously?

I'm sure you’re just hearing this for the first time — and if not, wait, let me explain.

There is something in trees known as roots. Trees are able to stand because of their roots. The deeper the roots, the taller the tree can stand.

That same principle is applied in building structures. The deeper the foundation, the taller and more stable the building can stand.

A building foundation is a substructure that transfers loads from the building to the ground, just like roots transfer the load of a tree to the soil.

The roots of plants vary depending on the type or species of the tree. The same thing applies to buildings.

Different buildings have different foundation systems based on factors such as: • Building design • Soil type • Soil composition • Soil condition • Structural load

A tree cannot stand without roots, and a building cannot stand without a foundation.
