Panthers Acquire Brady Tkachuk from Senators

The Florida Panthers have never been afraid to make bold moves, and their acquisition of Brady Tkachuk may prove to be one of the most significant in franchise history. In a blockbuster trade with the Ottawa Senators, Florida landed the former Senators captain, reuniting him with older brother Matthew Tkachuk and creating one of the most intimidating forward groups in the NHL.

To acquire Tkachuk, the Panthers paid a hefty price, sending Ottawa two first-round selections in the 2026 NHL Draft, a top-10 protected first-round pick in 2029, and a second-round pick in 2027. While surrendering that much draft capital is significant, Florida clearly believes its championship window remains wide open and that proven stars are worth more than future uncertainty.

From a hockey standpoint, the fit is obvious. Tkachuk brings elite physicality, leadership, and offensive production. Since entering the league in 2018, he has established himself as one of hockey’s premier power forwards, combining goal-scoring ability with relentless competitiveness. Panthers general manager Bill Zito described him as one of the league’s most dynamic and relentless competitors, qualities that perfectly align with Florida’s identity.

The addition of Brady alongside Matthew gives Florida something few teams can match: two star power forwards capable of taking over games physically and offensively. The brothers already demonstrated tremendous chemistry while helping Team USA capture Olympic gold earlier this year, and now they will have the opportunity to translate that success to the NHL level.

For a Panthers team looking to rebound after missing the playoffs following back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, this trade sends a clear message. Florida is not interested in rebuilding or taking a step back. Instead, the organization is doubling down on its pursuit of another championship by adding a player entering the prime of his career.

There are risks associated with sacrificing multiple premium draft picks, but elite players of Brady Tkachuk’s caliber rarely become available. When they do, contenders must act decisively. The Panthers did exactly that, and in the process may have assembled one of the NHL’s most feared rosters heading into the 2026–27 season.
