Why I shifted towards vibe coding instead of traditional Programming?

Hello, this is sameer ali and I am posting I think after two months or so like I think I haven’t posted in ages, so let’s hope medium doesn’t derank me.

Now coming back to the post, first I have a question to you all, have you ever tried vibe coding, like I know it’s a little too late to jump into vibe coding right now because all of the noise about vibe coding has been there for almost a year or two, but late is better then never.

So the thing is, I get a lot of ideas, like just sitting or relaxing or even when doing office work, a divine lightening strucks me and I have a new idea to work on, but even if there are ideas. I can not produce complete MVPs in a week or month alone, because I have to learn all of the tech skills first to complete and validate just one idea, and for people like me who have a hard time focusing on things for the long run, it’s a hell.

But I still tried learning all of it, I even enrolled in a mobile app development course, learnt a little bit of backend and frontend, and somethings from here and there and what not, it was way too time consuming and my idea check list was getting bigger and bigger day by day.

That’s when a linkedin post hit me, it was a free live session on Open AI’s codex, for those who don’t know it’s a vibe coding tool like many others and since vibe coding has been there for so long, I am not explaining what vibe coding is, just think of Tony Stark (Iron man) using his robots to create other robots, that’s it.

I took that class/live session on youtube, and it literally changed my point of view for vibe coding and coding agents, like from thinking that they can just write simple html to shipping a literal android app in just a single day, and personally I think it’s way too cool, because now I don’t need to wait months to validate an idea that I get randomly and waste all of my resources on it.

Like the agent literally had access to my project files and my testing environments as well, which is a little bit of scary but I had to step up to it, and yeah the AI coding agent was litterally writing lines of codes, checking logs and testing and building the entire app, when I was just dealing with hectic client responses and their vague project details which I would later cleanup for the AI to understand and process for me.

Though there is still room for improvement in these vibe coding tools (I mean codex, I haven’t really tried the other ones for now), for testing and user feedback and better understanding of user flow design and logic, like it literally sucks at it for now, but if given the right details and instructions we can overcome those limitations.

For those who are wondering what I built, so to serve your curiosity, I built a simple time sessions tracker for projects that I daily work on (screen shots for the app are attached at the bottom), yup it sounds simple but I think it could help me do a lot, because for me I do not know how much time I am actually spending on which task in a project, so these timed sessions would actually be really helpful for me to validate my projects and complete my growing list of uncompleted, untracked projects.

Now for the title, I am not actually switching to just vibe coding, instead it is a combination of traditional programming and vibe coding, because even now I still like to use only the stacks that I am familiar with even when using AI and review the code manually, so that I know which part of code does what, and I can scale the app better and provide clear instructions to the AI as well.

It’s like commanding a junior who excels at literal coding but cannot take performance or tradeoff decisions for the project scope.
