I Realized Why Starting a YouTube Channel Felt Easier at 15

When I was around 15 or 16, I told my parents I was going to start a YouTube channel. I started editing videos and uploading them without thinking much. Looking back now, I realize something interesting. I wasn’t necessarily more confident back then. I was just more naive.

I didn’t know how difficult consistency could be. I didn’t know people struggle with motivation, procrastination, burnout, or running out of ideas. I simply thought “I want to do this, so I will do it.” Now I’m 19, and when I think about posting content on Instagram, I know much more. I see creators talking about disappearing for months, struggling to stay consistent, or feeling pressure to keep posting. And somehow, knowing more makes starting feel heavier. That made me wonder, Is it sometimes better not to know too much before beginning something?

Then I thought about relationships.

When we have a crush on someone before actually knowing them, we often think “Wow! they seem perfect.” But once we know them better, we sometimes think “Wait, I imagined them differently :(” So in one situation, less information helps us start. In another situation, less information creates an illusion.Maybe the problem isn’t knowledge itself.

Maybe information about difficulty can sometimes create fear before the experience even begins, while information about people helps replace imagination with reality.

Maybe naive optimism is not entirely bad. Maybe it gives us the courage to take the first step. The answer is not to know less. And it is not to know more either. Maybe it’s just to start, even when you know it’s going to be hard.
