ONE SMALL HUMAN IN THE FACE OF IMMENSE DARKNESS

I know I do! Sometimes you just can’t avoid what is going on in the world! We are inundated with war, pain and suffering, hatred and belligerence leaving us often with a feeling of utter helplessness.

For me there is a heaviness about it, a presence that is dark and foreboding and that on the one hand I want to steer clear of it and on the other work against it.

I could say the world is a terrible place and that we have experienced even worse times and indeed we have! Immense darkness was not reserved just for our times. However that is cold comfort to me.

This is MY time and MY place and rational excuse- making does not give rest to my weary psyche.

In the face of such immense darkness I envision myself as merely a tiny human- facing an overwhelming force- much as David may have felt when facing his gigantic foe-armed only with a sling shot.

There was indeed a happy ending to that tale-with David slaying his enemy. He had faith and trust and did not cower in the face of adversity.

Many religious and spiritual texts tell us that only one speck of light can eradicate immense amounts of darkness. I certainly hope so.

I have to trust that this is true and have faith just as David once did.

However, what do I do while I await that ultimate scrubbing clean from such filth. I’m sure there are others in higher places, that will ultimately do necessary work (I hope) and I can only watch from afar.

Still I have devised a plan to ease my sense of helplessness in these waning days.

I know that we are not all equipped to save the world, but we can be the light in our OWN worlds.

Choosing kindness and love when ever such choices are placed before us. With one foot in front of the other -the need at hand is 0URS to resolve.

I trust that enough sparks of light acting in unison will ultimately illuminate even the darkest of darkness.

For better or worse, in that trust- I lay my fate.
