Coming To Terms With Destiny — A Meditation

None of us knows as children who or what we may finally become,

We learn, we grow, we struggle for meaning with no zero-sum,

Life can be difficult, choices unfair, with no guarantee who’ll care.

But we grow, we struggle to know, and we hope it will be fair,

But things change, life often will rearrange, and we may stumble,

If we build ourselves up, we can easily fall; we learn to be humble!

To accept defeat, to release a conceit, and find strength to stand,

There is so much in life, unwanted strife, nothing goes as planned,

We must begin again, find new avenues to grow, struggle to know,

What is the outcome? What plans must we make? What must be so?

No one can tell us the best way to go. We must struggle for meaning.

And if things go wrong, we must do it alone with no one intervening!

I’ve been there, done that, seen the writing on the wall, taken the fall!

Been running the race, thought I found the safe space, then must crawl,

How many times in a panoply of rhymes have we recited these words?

If we live long enough, we all know it’s rough; we deal with the absurd!

Unexpected outcomes, losses that seemed gains, afterwards, what remains,

We all must come to the realisations of life’s unexpected losses and gains,

We need no lectures on martyrs and crosses; often, it seems like coin tosses.

But we go on, we struggle to join the race, to find our special place and run,

We hope against hope that there’s no rope-a-dope, we still have a chance,

Let us find the courage to get back in the game, the strength to rejoin the dance!
