Do you love free traffic to your self-published books? If yes, this post is for you. I tested it for last 30 days. It works.
For the past few years, my publishing routine has the same pattern. I spend weeks researching, writing, editing, designing the cover, and finally publishing my book on Amazon KDP.
I usually write a few Medium articles related to the book and share them on social media. Then I move on to my next book.
Marketing has never been my strongest habit. I naturally spend more energy creating than promoting. Still, my self-published books generate a good amount of royalties every month. I get pre-orders before publication.
I started asking myself a question: What if my books could reach many more readers if I marketed them consistently?
That question led me to experiment with Pinterest.
30 Pins in 30 Days
I chose one book, The False Witness, my latest psychological thriller. For 30 consecutive days, I created one Pinterest Pin every day to promote the book.

About “The False Witness”

Book Cover
The False Witness is a fictional psychological thriller inspired by a real criminal case that happened in the United States. At the heart of the story is a disturbing psychological reality: human memory is not always reliable.
False memory is a well-established psychological phenomenon. Sometimes people can remember events differently from how they actually happened. In some situations, a person can genuinely believe a memory that is inaccurate.
In a criminal case, the consequences can be devastating. A witness’s testimony can influence an investigation, a trial, and even the fate of an innocent person.
Imagine an innocent person being sent to prison because someone sincerely believes he committed a crime.
That frightening possibility became the foundation of The False Witness.
A woman recovered a memory of a murder mystery after 20 years! The killer was her father. The man was punished for life imprisonment based her recovered memory.
Later, the truth eventually emerges and the person is released, the damage to the family, relationships, and life can never truly be repaired.
The novel is fictional, but its central fear is rooted in a real criminal case and a genuine psychological phenomenon. It asks a question that stayed with me throughout the writing process:
What if the memory that destroys your life is not true?
Each Pin had a different image, headline, description, and angle. Some focused on psychological suspense and false memories, while others highlighted crime, courtroom drama, and the mystery surrounding the story. The destination remained the same — the book page.
I wanted to find out whether Pinterest could bring additional visibility to a self-published book.

The Results Were Encouraging
The biggest surprise was the number of clicks my book link received. People were not simply seeing the Pins; they were clicking through to discover the book.
My book is enrolled in KDP Select, so Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read it without purchasing it separately. Authors receive royalties based on the pages read by Kindle Unlimited subscribers.
In August, The False Witness became my second-highest book for page reads.

Then I Tested Pinterest With My Course

I wanted to see whether Pinterest could work for something other than books. So I created one Pin for my Udemy course, Monetize Your Expertise.
That single Pin received more than 50 impressions and 3 link clicks. More importantly, I got my first sale, and about $3.50 appeared in my Udemy dashboard. The first sale comes from Pinterest.
It was a small result, but for me, it proved something important: Pinterest can send real visitors to a digital product, and some of those visitors can become customers.
Why I Like Organic Traffic
I have always depended heavily on Medium for visibility for my self-published books. Now I see Pinterest as another potential discovery channel.
Pinterest is different from many social platforms because it works more like a visual search engine. A Pin created today can potentially continue bringing visitors weeks, months, or even years later.
That is what makes organic traffic attractive to me. In paid marketing, when you stop paying, the traffic stops. But organic traffic is free and no stop for traffic.
Why leave that free traffic on the table?
Marketing Is Part of Self-Publishing
Self-published authors cannot simply write a book, publish it, and disappear. Self-publishers are responsible for helping readers discover our books.
I am not saying Pinterest will make every book successful. I am not saying paid advertising doesn’t work. Every marketing channel has its place.
But Pinterest costs very little to test. You can create Pins, experiment with different headlines and images, track the clicks, and see what happens.
I publish my books through Amazon KDP pre-orders. I often get bookings before publication. From now onwards, I plan to create Pinterest Pins for my upcoming books during the pre-order period instead of waiting until after publication.
I Love Free Traffic
Thirty days ago, I wasn’t sure whether Pinterest was worth my time. Today, I have enough evidence to keep to continuing.
My book received clicks. My book continued to generate page reads. My course received clicks. And one Pin helped generate a sale.
It can continue bringing potential readers and customers without paying for every click. A source of free traffic for months and years. A 24/7 visual search engine.
As an independent author and digital creator, I love free traffic.
And if Pinterest can continue sending readers to my books and customers to my courses, I see no reason to stop.
Now your turn. Do a test. And share the result.
