VanEck’s SOL Spot ETF Appears on DTCC List
SOL Spot ETF Approval Could Arrive by Mid-July

Solana (SOL) may soon follow in the footsteps of Bitcoin and Ethereum as the next crypto asset to secure a spot ETF in the U.S. VanEck’s proposed SOL spot ETF, listed under the ticker “VSOL,” has officially appeared on the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) pre-launch list — an essential step in the ETF onboarding process. Although the ETF is currently marked as “not eligible for trading,” the listing suggests that the regulatory groundwork is in motion.
DTCC plays a pivotal role in ETF processing across U.S. financial markets. Historically, both Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs appeared on the DTCC list shortly before gaining SEC approval. SOL’s presence now has analysts and investors speculating that a similar approval path could be unfolding. Additionally, CME’s launch of SOL futures in May aligns with the SEC’s established pattern of approving spot ETFs only after a futures market has been established.

VanEck has submitted the necessary S-1 filings for the ETF, and the SEC has already responded with revision requests — a typical early step in the regulatory dialogue. Separately, the SEC has opened a public comment period for a SOL/XRP ETF proposal submitted by Franklin Templeton, which remains active until the end of July. Industry players like Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) have publicly supported Solana as the next logical candidate for ETF approval, branding it as the “next-gen ETH.”
Market reactions have been mixed but revealing. While SOL initially dipped 2.5% on the DTCC news, it quickly recovered, showing both speculative excitement and caution. On-chain activity points to long-term holders moving assets to exchanges, possibly positioning for a “sell-the-news” opportunity. Meanwhile, SOL options markets are seeing a surge in implied volatility, indicating increased trader anticipation of short-term moves.
If the SEC maintains its current timeline, analysts expect a decision on the VanEck SOL ETF by mid-July. Approval would mark a major milestone, potentially unlocking new institutional capital inflows into the Solana ecosystem. However, risks remain — chief among them, regulatory ambiguity around whether SOL qualifies as a security and potential shifts in direction based on U.S. political developments.
