These Hands :Men vow to stop gender violence.

Today marks the start of 16 days of gender activism.This is a time to take action to end violence against women and girls.

Women and girls are mostly affected by violence in Kenya.In the year 2014,the government put in place a policy that will ensure the enhanced protection of women`s rights and gender equity in the constitution.

this was during the launch of the campaign which is undertaken under the United Nations.

The main perpetrators of violence have been identified as men.The campaign seeks to mobilize men and boys as advocates of gender equality and as agents of change.

On the eve of the event,yesterday,The British Council and Premier League held an event in Nyalenda,Kisumu county.The clinic was all about gender based violence which involved counselling sessions,skits on GBV among other enlightening activities.

Under the theme kataa dhuluma-linda mama na dada,men came out strongly in support of the campaign and making vows not to involve in gender based violence again.

Zeddy Tunya, a 32 year old man,one of the participants at this event at Buddies grounds in Nyalenda said men are greatly to blame for violence in the homes.

You must know that your wife is an asset that you have to protect well.We have this notion that because you paid dowry you can treat her as you wish which is wrong.Know that your wife can take action against you as she has rights.

Tom Obuya just like Zeddy concur that men create this wars in the homes.

We men jump into issues especially when we are guilty,lets say you have a side dish and the wife finds out and when she asks you start fighting her but you know deep down you are the person on the wrong

A great asset in the fight against gender based violence is to speak out.Do not suffer in silence.

One is advised to report all forms of violence at the nearest police station and obtain an OB number.
