Whether you’re a new or longtime member who has just come across my New Rags 2 Riches profile, you’re probably thinking: Who in the hell is New Rags 2 Riches?

Well guess what? I’ll never tell…

In case you’re wondering why not, just keep reading below, and you’ll understand my decision to stay incognito and why I say:

Your money is your own damn business, so keep it that way (at least to a certain degree).

Here’s what I’ve been discovering about my particular situation, that is still currently evolving — thus the term “financial evolution”.

When it comes to situations pertaining to money and sudden wealth; discretion and due diligence are two very necessary elements when discussing or spending money.

Here’s what I learned…

Financial Stress Connected to Wealth

When sudden wealth enters your life — whether from an inheritance, settlement, business deal, or lottery win — it’s natural to feel a sense of freedom.

The financial stress you once knew may seem like a thing of the past. But whether you realize it or not, this new chapter is not a time for you to let your guard down regarding money.

While wealth can inject comfort and luxury into your lifestyle, it can also bring a new kind of responsibility, especially with respect to how you manage, protect, and discuss money from that point forward.

The truth is, your money should stay your business. Sharing too many details about your financial gains can potentially invite:

  • Unwanted attention
  • Exploitation or manipulation
  • Jealousy and spiteful reactions

The thing to keep in mind is: Discretion is not secrecy — it’s protection, so don’t allow yourself to feel guilty for keeping silent and not sharing news of your good fortune with everyone.

Keeping your financial business to yourself allows you to make smart, well-informed decisions without outside pressure or risk of becoming a target for those with hidden agendas.

Don’t mistakenly think this won’t apply to you, and that everyone in your orbit has your best interest at heart. They don’t. And even if they did, you can still end up getting too much unsolicited advice from those who mean well.

People who love you may mean well (maybe), but they’re always willing to get in your business, if you let them.

Remember what happened with the television family known as the “Clampetts”. The Beverly Hillbillies are probably one of the most popular rags to riches story around. According to the theme song:

“…Kinfolk said: ‘Jed move away from there.’ Said: ‘California is the place you oughta be’. So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly. Hills that is — swimming pools, movie stars.”

Depending on how deep your “kinfolk” are allowed to know and get into your business, just might determine how quickly you end up burning through your new found wealth.

Stay Informed Not Obsessed About Your Money

Exercising discretion and remaining quiet about the new status of your bank account doesn’t mean remaining uninformed about the unfamiliar territory you now find yourself in.

This is where due diligence becomes essential. In this case, don’t even think of trying to go it alone. Make a dedicated effort to seek guidance from:

  • Trusted financial advisors
  • Tax professionals
  • Estate planners

Fully vet these and other types of experts, depending on the specific money matters you’re dealing with. But above all, be sure to reach out to people with verifiable credentials and transparent reputations.

I realize that it’s up to ME to educate myself about wealth preservation, risk management, and sustainable investment strategies, and that’s exactly what I intend on doing.

For example, from what I’ve been able to determine thus far, one of the first and most important topics I need to begin gaining knowledge about, is the ends and outs of establishing an “LLC”.

From different sources (Including a comment from Tiffany Haddish’s rags to riches story), I’ve heard that using an LLC is a way to protect any personal assets from potential liability.

Also, according to what was stated in the story I watched about the “Eva Larue” stalking case, an LLC is a good way to help you and your funds remain discreet.

With regard to doing my own due diligence about high finance, and having money that I’m not accustomed to having, I’m just getting started with learning to manage my future wealth — not to mention my future spending.

Final Thoughts to Consider

Having money can make life easier, but it can also disappear faster than you ever imagined — especially if managed carelessly or without a plan.

Responsible wealth management isn’t just about staying rich; it’s about ensuring your financial independence lasts a lifetime.

So the bottom line is, learn to enjoy the rewards of your monetary success, but remember: your money is your business — so handle it wisely, privately, and with strategic care.

  • Know when to talk and when to be discreet about money
  • Refrain from bragging and/or showing off with over-the-top spending
  • Recognize who you can sincerely trust and consider the consequences of taking them into your confidence (Such as the burden of keeping your secret)
