When you think of Cambridge, you probably picture grand university buildings, punting on the River Cam, and historic streets bustling with tourists. But during our recent visit, my British husband, Chris, and I wanted to experience the city like the people who actually live there.
Luckily, Chris’s relatives live in Cambridge, and they offered to take us out to one of their absolute favorite neighborhood spots.
If you want to experience the true, authentic pub culture of Cambridge, you have to look beyond the main tourist strips. The place they took us to was exactly what we were looking for—a vibrant, cozy establishment tucked away from the usual crowds, oozing with local charm and a fantastic atmosphere.
We happened to visit on a Monday evening, thinking it would be a quiet night to grab a drink and catch up. We were completely wrong! It turns out Monday is their special pizza promotion night, and the word is definitely out.
The wood-fired pizzas were absolutely incredible—perfectly crispy crusts, fresh toppings, and the kind of comfort food that pairs beautifully with a traditional local ale. The vibe inside was amazing; despite being the very start of the week, the pub was absolutely packed with locals laughing, clinking glasses, and enjoying the lively atmosphere.
If you're planning to visit, here is my biggest piece of advice: arrive early. Even on a Monday, tables fill up incredibly fast, and you won’t want to be left standing outside when the smell of fresh pizza hits the air.
