Letter Postmarked: Jan 15, 1939 Spokane Wash. Davenport Hotel Spokane Washington To: Miss Betty Hodgson 6034 Walton St. Philadelphia, Penna
[Note: Betty is my grandmother who was 26, and engaged to my grandfather, Fritz in 1938 and 39.]
Saturday
Dear Betty:
Arrived in Spokane after a nice ride thru the Yakima & Winatchu apple country. We are leaving early in the morning for Chicago & will be on the train until 9am Tuesday. This will be rather tiring 2 nights & 2 days on the same train without a stop-over.
Spokane is a nice little town & the hotel I’m staying in is one of the best I’ve ever been in. We both turned in early because we are played out from constant train riding. Also — Mr. Barriger hadn’t arranged for anyone to meet us so we had nothing to do.
Tomorrow we will be riding thru the famous North Dakota Bad Lands & it should be interesting country.
I won’t write again until I hit Chicago because it is very hard to write on a train. I hope I have a letter waiting for me at Chicago.
Love as ever, Fritz
