Understanding Chiron
Introduction
While Chiron represents pain, it also can represent the potential for healing. This planetoid has a dark side and a light side, just like we all do. Chiron was discovered in 1977, but was named after the Greek God of Healing — a centaur born to the Titan god Cronus and Philyra (who later transformed into a linden tree). According to legend, he was abandoned by his parents leaving him alone in the wilderness with no one to take care of him. While not a full-fledged Olympian god like Zeus or Hera, Chiron held more power than most of them. His gift was his ability to integrate both animal energy (the centaur) with human energy (the god), which gave him an innate understanding of healing and teaching. The name “Chiron” therefore comes from Greek word “Chi-Ron” which means “hand” or “to heal/make whole” as well as “he who teaches mortals how to live.”
Chiron’s placement in your birth chart reveals old wounds, which can manifest as physical pain, emotional scars from past relationships or feelings of isolation.
Understanding your Chiron placement can help identify blind spots in your energetic makeup, thus giving reason for deeper understanding and compassion. Chiron is a teacher; it shows us how we heal ourselves by using the tools that have been given to us through our heritage and experiences. Our heritage holds a direct link to our ancestry in which some of our deepest questions around our pain can be answered. Each of us has been given an opportunity to learn from our own unique set of circumstances, so we can offer others a chance to understand their own through empathy and understanding. This placement gives incite into how we feel displaced in society, but it also gives us incite into how we fit. Maybe the parts of ourself that we are denying are the parts that lead us to abundance.
Chiron indicates the potential for healing — or choosing not to heal. Though Chiron adds a sense of pain into our energetic field, it can also help us learn more about ourselves. Chiron gives the individual the gift of awareness and the ability to have a strong sense of self providing a capacity for integration. When an individual can integrate their dark side into their light, it makes a path for an incredible shift to happen. This shift is known as accountability.
A wounded healer can hold space for their wounds while accessing a deeper purpose within those wounds. The uniqueness of our experiences drives us to change direction. When we have the power to accept the fullness of being human, we then give our conscious the responsibility to evolve. In this precious process of evolution there is no room for excuses, there is only room for growth. When we become aware of who we are, Chiron grants us an opportunity to teach from a position of love.
Chiron reminds us that before there was self-hate, there was active love. In active love we can do wrong, and still be whole.
The dark side is an integral part of every human being and not something to be feared but rather embraced as an aspect of your complete self that needs to be integrated into your life so that all aspects work together as one unit.
Astrologically speaking, Chiron is about our quest for wholeness and our capacity for self-transformation. In short, Chiron demonstrates emotional intelligence. It demonstrates the power to merge into grace from a place of division.
We are all wounded healers on some level. Learning to let go and remember. We all have experienced some sort of trauma or loss in our lives that has left us feeling broken and damaged in some way or another (or perhaps many ways). When we’re too young to cope with these feelings they can become hidden away inside us until they manifest as symptoms in later life such as anxiety or depression.
However, by taking responsibility for ourselves (rather than blaming others) we can begin the healing process through self-awareness. This involves identifying what happened back then, what triggered you emotionally, so that you can learn how to respond in future situations. Chiron acts as a road map and simply guides you through your shadow if you’re ready to see.
Chiron relate to healing and teaching — it’s where we take what we learn and turn it into solutions that help others.
Chiron reminds me of a child and a parent. The two are inseparable. As a kid, we saw are parents as heroes that wore capes. Yet, once we grew up we learned that our parents were just people. The shiny armor gets taken away and we recognize they simply don’t have all the answers. The child bares a weight that feels like a burden, but that child also learns to reparent themselves in a way that matures the wound when said child is ready.
Chiron is where we take what we learn and turn it into solutions that help others. It’s how we find the courage to use our own experiences to teach others. Understanding your Chiron placement gives you knowledge in the areas of your life that must be improved.
We can uncover a lot about ourselves by studying the placement of this interesting asteroid in our natal birth chart!
- Chiron is one of the few asteroids that can be found in a birth chart, and it’s considered to be one of the most important astrological entities.
- Chiron is a minor planet, discovered in 1977 by Charles Kowal.
- The centaur Chiron was named after this asteroid because he was an important figure in Greek mythology who taught humanity about medicine and healing.
- As with many other things related to Greek mythology, Chiron has been associated with healing throughout history!
Chiron represents pain, redemption and teaching — often at the same time. Study your chart to gain further access into the inner wisdom that lies dormant within you. Knowing yourself goes a long way while delicately teaching you compassion and love for the people you surround yourself with.
Take a look at your natal chart (a birth chart) to see where Chiron lies within it, this can easily be calculated on astro.com. If you’d like further insight into your chart I am available for readings. Check out my site yangyinstudio.space.
