How I Helped Tech Corruption

…and stopped worrying?.. Naah, not really.

Before I start talking (a lot) about IT corruption,* let me tell you a short RL story from the present time, from… the kitchen.

I’ve been visited by a gas technician some days ago — you see, despite what the land lady claimed, you can not really stir-fry with anything but a powerful gas flame, and so, on top of buying a gas cooker, I also had to deal with the gas company to get connected — as per official company’s and government regulations.

I set the appointment up, paid for this and for that to the company, took a work-from-home day at work, and… the technician actually came.

Right from the doorstep, he started complaining about the problems with my gas installation: the outlet didn’t look good and should have been replaced, its placement was not safe and should have been changed, all according to regulations — this would cost me extra for sure.

I had my doubts, but I was lucky to have some other gas technicians online (IT!) and immediately consulted them on the subject — where I got the taste of their professional solidarity — they said it was a borderline case… at that technician’s discretion, of course.

Well, my experienced technician preferred to fish for a bigger tip instead — at first, it didn’t occur to me it was a case for any tip — but when one of the burners needed a little help… oh, there are so many stairs to your place, so I’ll need a bigger tip to have a reason to go down and up again, and to bring that special needle from my other toolbox, and to fix that largest (stir-fry) burner with it, which is not in the scope of my job at all… and I agreed on a really big tip… the regulations softened suddenly, the outlet was left to be, the cooker was hooked perfectly fine and everyone was happy.

Everyone, right?..
