Why the Asset Gardening Method (AGM) Was Born

Some wells bring water.

Others bring hope.

This is the story of how I decided to dig mine.

A Story That Changed My Life

I am Japanese.

Among the people I deeply admire is Dr. Tetsu Nakamura.

He first went to Afghanistan as a physician. Over time, he realized something profound:

Medicine alone could not save people.

Even if illness was treated, people could not survive without water.

So he began digging wells and building irrigation canals — creating the infrastructure that allowed communities to build their own future.

Today, his work continues through international cooperation involving JICA, FAO, and the Peshawar-kai.

What began as one person’s conviction became something larger than himself.

An Ordinary Life, Quietly Practicing Money Skills

I am not a financial celebrity. I have simply lived as an office worker — quiet, ordinary days.

Over many years, I practiced three simple habits:

  • Growing my savings
  • Investing little by little
  • Protecting what I had built

No shortcuts. No chasing quick profits. Just steady, patient progress.

Eventually, I realized something important:

Financial literacy is not reserved for experts.

It is a practical life skill that ordinary people can learn — and one that can quietly change their future.

with me.

I knew I would never follow Dr. Nakamura’s path.

I am not a doctor.

I cannot build irrigation canals.

But I kept asking myself:

What kind of well can I dig?

For me, the answer became clear over time:

Financial education.

Why Financial Education Matters

Poverty and conflict have many causes. But I believe one of them is fear.

The fear of losing income. The fear of losing opportunity. The fear of losing the future.

When people live with constant fear, it becomes difficult to think calmly or plan for tomorrow. I have seen this not only in financial situations, but also in workplaces, families, and communities.

Financial education cannot solve every social problem. But it can help people build resilience, confidence, and hope.

Sometimes that is where lasting change begins.

Why I Created the Asset Gardening Method

From my own experience, I gradually developed a framework that combines several ideas:

  • A gardening metaphor that helps people think of money as something to nurture rather than chase
  • Storytelling that connects learning with real human experiences
  • Practical habits such as budgeting, saving, and long-term investing
  • A mindset that values patience over comparison and sustainability over speed
  • Transparency through sharing my own investment journey
  • Human × AI collaboration, making financial learning more accessible

I call this framework the **Asset Gardening Method (AGM)**.

AGM is not an investment strategy.

It is a cultural framework for learning about money.

It is designed so that beginners, children, and anyone without financial experience can begin learning with confidence.

Those who wish to become financial professionals should pursue specialized education.

AGM aims to provide the foundation.

Human Experience × AI

We live in a unique moment in history.

For the first time, human experience and artificial intelligence can work together.

People bring stories, empathy, and lived experience. AI brings organization, structure, and continuous support.

AI does not replace human wisdom. It amplifies it.

Together, financial education can become something more accessible — a public good that anyone can learn from.

That is the future I hope to help build.

Digging a Different Kind of Well

I cannot dig wells like Dr. Tetsu Nakamura.

But perhaps I can dig a different kind of well.

A well of financial education.

One that helps people build confidence instead of fear.

One that encourages patience instead of panic.

One that future generations can continue to draw from.

This is the role I hope to fulfill throughout my life.

Gardens are not grown overnight. Neither are cultures.

I expect this work to take decades. That is perfectly fine.

A Quiet Invitation

What kind of “well” are you digging for the future.

If you would like to share your story — financial or otherwise — I would be grateful to read it in the comments. © 2025–2026 Yuto Abe — All rights reserved.
