The Prince and The Pixie

…in an enchanted forest glade

In a forest glade in the enchanted wood, lived a pixie bathed in fairy dust she played and she laughed the live long day too short the day for her frolicsome ways.

One day she found she was not alone that she shared the glade with a handsome prince also bathed in fairy dust. Intrigued, excited she crossed his path and he looked at her, and then looked away uninterested, indifferent.

Did he not like her did she not find favour in his eyes was she not wholesome, pretty was she too plain?

And the pixie who had loved to look at herself in the mirror of daily dewdrops the forest streams and reflected rainbows on the river’s surface began to hide from them she shunned the glimmer of dew, the glow of gloaming, the gleam of the glade’s brooks.

Was she not enough, she asked herself why was she not wanted did she have flaws she knew nothing about?

She didn’t know, how could she, poor sprite, that the pixie who had turned away from her, was so full of himself and his own perceived prettiness, that he disliked looking, not just at her, but at anyone?

So she wasted away, this sprite of morning sunshine and evening radiance, and one fine day there was only a handful of fairy dust on the downy grass in the forest glade to mark the place where she once played.

The haughty prince came looking for her because his mirror had broken and he couldn’t fashion another to sing his praises applaud his graces.

He was sad she was no more… Such a bother searching out another!
