Jessy Lanza charms audience with powerful synthpop

Concert room Muziekodroom, Hasselt, 8pm. Less than 5 degrees on the street, nobody outside, not even smokers. But inside Canadian pop artist Jessy Lanza warms up her audience with an overwhelming venue of her latest electro album Oh No.

Jessy Lanza concert would start at 9:30pm. After experincing the performance of the support act, American Olga Bell. It was easy to imagine that it would be difficult to please the audience. There were not too many people in the auditorium, although it wasn´t a big one. There weren’t any place to take seat, so little by little people were coming into the small auditorium with their beers or wine glass in their hands.

The lighting and sound technicians were ready, they waited excited and pleased the beginning of the performance.

Suddenly, lights fell down and an overwhelming silence took over the room. It is in this moment that the music started and Jessy Lanza appeared in the scenery with an aura of mystery and sweetness. One huge explosion of sounds which ended up in the recognizable sound brand of Jessy Lanza: Her mix of electronic, pop, and funky music which is taking her to fame.

The start of the concert was a little bit difficult due to the fact that the biggest part of the audience didn´t know who she is, so the auditorium was divided between fans and curious people, who required a bigger effort to plug theirself in her music. However, Lanza was becoming stronger with each song she was singing. She did not miss the appointment with songs such as It Could Be You, Oh no or It Means I Love You.

Lanza did her best and people could feel it. She plunged herself body and soul into her songs and succeeded to transmit that feelings to her fans and even onto people who didn’t know her before. She only needes the help of her loyal drummer, who characteristically didn’t use shoes in the performance, and of her mix table for filling the scenery. So she caught the attention of everyone in the auditorium.

One torrential source of vibrant energy involves the people who were present achieving finally everybody to enjoy the concert. Her dances had an extravagant and steady rhythm which pushed you to start to dance alone with the music.

Although she started a little disappointing and boring, Lanza knew to perform and finally ended as a pleasant surprise for almost everybody.
