Budget: Aussie Actuaries Institute Insists On Ai, Climate & Health Reform

The Actuaries Institute has outlined key priorities for economic resilience and social equity in its 2025–26 Pre-Budget submission, urging the government to address cost of living, climate risks, technological change and healthcare reform.

Addressing economic resilience

The submission highlights five key areas requiring government focus:

  • Targeted cost of living relief measures.
  • Investment in climate resilience and technological shifts, including Ai, cyber risk and quantum computing.
  • Reforming healthcare funding, retirement income and disability schemes.
  • Reviewing tax policies to address inequality and simplify superannuation.
  • Expanding investment in education to bolster the STEM workforce and improve financial literacy. Balancing immediate and long-term challenges

“Australia faces complex economic challenges that require a measured, evidence-based approach balancing immediate economic pressures with long-term strategic planning to safeguard economic stability and social fairness,” said Elayne Grace, CEO of the Actuaries Institute.

Grace stressed the importance of targeted cost-of-living support while also investing in climate resilience and emerging Ai technologies.

“We need meaningful reform across healthcare, retirement income and disability schemes to ensure they remain sustainable for future generations. This must be complemented by considered tax reform and strategic investment in STEM education to build Australia’s future capabilities,” she said.

Urging long-term reform

The institute argues that addressing long-term structural issues in healthcare and superannuation is necessary to ensure sustainability. The submission also calls for further investment in financial literacy to prepare Australians for future economic challenges.

The Actuaries Institute will continue advocating for policies that strengthen resilience and equity in Australia’s economic landscape.
