76 years of KAI Getting Closer to Generation Z

Railways in Indonesia have a long history. This mode of mass transportation has existed since the Dutch stepped foot in the archipelago in 1864, long before Indonesia's independence.
At that time, the train not only carried passengers, but also crops to war equipment. The vast territory to far inland made the train the backbone of transportation.
After Indonesia's independence, a number of foreign companies were nationalized including Dutch-owned companies, becoming the State Railway Company (PNKA).
Changes and transformations continue to occur in Indonesian Railways towards a better direction. .slowly but surely the image of Indonesian railways continues to improve. Now PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is entering its 76th year. September 28, 1945 was a milestone for the Indonesian Railways, marked by the seizure of the head office of the Railways in Bandung and the establishment of the Indonesian Railways Department (DKARI).
Entering a new era, where the world is at hand, has encouraged PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to present various innovations in passenger train services.
"Welcoming KAI's 76th Anniversary which falls on September 28, 2021, KAI carries the theme of Serving Faster and Better. KAI wants to move faster in serving the community with better quality. ..KAI continues to make various innovations as a form of improving service to customers," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo when inaugurating three innovations at Bandung Station, Friday (9/24).

These innovations are in the form of accelerating travel time, providing free wifi services, and providing Live Cooking services on the train.
The student explained, first, KAI accelerated the travel time on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train journey (Gambir - Surabaya Pasar Turi pp), Argo Wilis (Bandung - Surabaya Gubeng pp), Argo Lawu (Gambir - Solo Balapan pp), Argo Dwipangga (Gambir - Solo.Racing pp), and Taksaka (Gambir - Yogyakarta pp). This travel acceleration aims to meet the expectations of customers who require faster travel times. .This acceleration can be achieved through improving infrastructure capabilities so that trains are able to go faster but still prioritize travel safety.
"For example, for the Gambir - Yogyakarta round-trip route, the journey is now shorter, only about 6 hours from the previous 7 hours using Argo Lawu and Argo Dwipangga trains." he said.
Acceleration also occurs in other trains, for example the Argo Wilis train for the Bandung - Surabaya Gubeng pp route, which is 48 minutes faster, so the travel time becomes 9 hours 55 minutes. .Meanwhile, Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir - Surabaya Pasar Turi route after 14 minutes has been reduced on June 1, 2021, this time it has been reduced again by 19-20 minutes so that now the travel time is 8 hours 10 minutes.
Second, said Didiek, KAI launched Free Wifi services on Argo Bromo Anggrek, Argo Lawu, Argo Dwipangga, Argo Wilis, Taksaka, and Argo Parahyangan trains. The presence of free wifi aims to meet customer needs in the digital era.

"With free Wifi, customers can still carry out activities such as work, access entertainment content, and communicate while traveling," said Didiek.
while on the train, customers can select a wifi SSID with the name #FreeWi-fi:MacroAd to be able to access free wifi during the trip.
The third, KAI launched live cooking services on Argo Lawu, Argo Dwipangga, Taksaka, and Argo Wilis trains. .After previously being presented on the Argo Bromo Anggrek Train on June 1, 2021, KAI has again added live cooking services to other trains on the basis of positive public response.
"Hopefully, this service can treat the longing of connoisseurs of train travel and provide a memorable experience while culinary during the trip," said Didiek.
Various mainstay menus are presented by means of Live Cooking on the Train, namely Nasi Goreng Parahyangan Legend, Mie Godog Jawa, Mie Goreng Jawa, and Nasi Sei Beef. .kAI Services presents selected chefs who will cook on the train hygienically, professionally, and while still paying attention to safety.
In addition to going directly to the dining car, ordering dishes on the dining car can also be done via WhatsApp at 0811-1061-2121 or simply through the KAI Access application. .This innovation is a form of integration of KAI Services on KAI Access to provide convenience to customers.
At the age of 76, KAI continues to strive to provide safe, efficient, and growing transportation services to meet customer needs.
"We present various innovations to create a better customer experience and provide added value to loyal train customers," he concluded
