The Cost Of A Question Paper: How irresponsible conduct of Exams is Stealing the Dreams of Young India

The privilege of being an Indian student is that you don’t have to worry about future because there seems none, and it is as simple as said.

The Topic of the Hour: Examination Paper Leak has found no concrete response from accountable authorities in the grand leadership of Vishwaguru except media coverage and public outrage. The sharp shift of blame from the controllers to the teachers via agented media has added fuel to the fire. But alas! It won’t improve a single thing.

If we re-collect the events for past two years(2024–26) we conclude with one common argument Re-Exam. National Testing Agency has been appointed to conduct the examinations and release the results in well nick of time, but seems no accountability is shown in action. We have witnessed following high-profile paper leaks at both central and state levels.:

  1. UP Police Constable Recruitment Exam(Feb 2024)

The answer sheet for written exam was widely circulated on Telegram during examination hours which lead to cancellation of exam and retest.

  1. UPPSC Review Officer & Assistant Review Officer Exam(Feb 2024)

Answer keys were circulated by cheat-gang networks before examination with evident proof in public domain and it again led to cancellation of exam for both shifts , promising a clean retest within 6 months, still awaited.

  1. BPSC Teacher Recruitment Exam

  2. NEET UG Medical Entrance Exam(May 2024)

2.4 million students enrolled for exam left at the mercy of Lord Dharmendra Pradhan. Hon Supreme Court had to intervene the massive political and legal storm as it first brought the pattern into limelight. SC later ruled against total nationwide retest citing lack of systematic leak data.

  1. UGC NET Exam (June 2024)

On next immediate day of Pen-Paper test conducted by supreme NTA, Ministry of Home Affairs indicated that integrity of exam was compromised and cancelled exam for the vague sake of transparency, hahaa…

  1. NEET UG Examination (May 2026)

Technical glitch delaying the start of shift 1 of exam left 3765 candidates unanswered and had to leave the center before the restart of the exam.

Examinations filter the capable candidates from applicants who contribute in nation-building programme. But if examinations themselves are not being held smooth and regularly, how come one can expect the progress to be as required. The World’s biggest problem today is not population explosion but population shrinkage. Carrying a student population share of 21% i.e. 29 00 00 000(UDISE Rreport 2024–25 & AISHE Report 2021–22), still if we can’t produce a quality workforce then it is nothing less than to be ashamed of. All the progressive countries increase the share of GDP on National Education, but we have witnessed a gradual reduction in allocation of funds overtime((3.0% to 2.7%) which after passing the hands of corruption reaches with lesser zeroes on paychecks. All the educationally sound countries allocate 4.5%-5.5% of their respective GDPs on National Education Funds. Pardon future, we are not ready to face the present global scenarios. Indian students (other than a few IITs & IIMs) are under skilled and underqualified to compete against their global counterparts and don’t stand a chance in academic marathons. Ye kaise ache din hein?

And after that when we become ready the examination system kills the drive of students and family.

All this is happening time and again and there are no serious measures taken except repetition of fake promises and declaration of dates for re-examination. Detailed reports have been published via a handful of real journalists (2 kauri wale nahin) but what happened to the infiltrators of the examination system is still classified in the dusted files.

This fortress of examination papers is viewed with widespread skepticism across the population as these are heavily monetized channels :

Paper Settings → Leaky Printing Contracts → Fractured Logistics →Systematic Leak →Retest/Cancellation

The process breaks down long before a student marks his first response. The reliance on opaque, third party private vendors for printing and transporting highly sensitive question papers has transformed what should be a rigorous public service into a transactional marketplace. Even when the mode of examination shifts to digital format, the infrastructure often crashes under its own weight as in recent CBSE OSM row with massive cybersecurity lapses, data exposures and administrative failures i.e. marking tender to COEMPT Edutech Pvt Ltd should be thoroughly checked.

When a premier testing agency tells students who have given up years of their youth that their exam is cancelled because a server crashed or a leak occurred, it isn’t just an administrative negligence or irresponsibility rather its is an emotional eviction of the students and the families.
