Hello, Medium — And Welcome to My Debug Diary

This feels a little surreal to write, but here we are. My first article on any publication.

I’m Harper Elise Callahan, a Lead Front-End Engineer based in Austin, and after spending more than a decade building eCommerce experiences, I’ve finally decided it’s time to start sharing some of that knowledge here. You may have landed here through my publication, Debug Diary, and if so, I’m glad you’re here.

From this point forward, there’s a good chance you’ll see more of my writing — thoughts, lessons, breakdowns, fixes, and the occasional reminder that one missing bracket can derail an entire day. My goal is simple: to share technical insights in a way that helps businesses understand the problems they’re facing and gives them enough clarity to solve them on their own or with the help of a junior developer.

Why I’m Starting This Publication

After years of working with eCommerce brands — large and small — I’ve realized something: many of the issues teams struggle with aren’t unsolvable. They just need the right explanation, the right pattern, or the right nudge in the right direction.

That’s what I want this space to become:

  • A practical, approachable resource for anyone trying to build, fix, or refine their online store.*

What You Can Expect From My Articles

I’ll be focusing on topics that actually matter in day-to-day development. Expect posts on:

  • Debugging common storefront issues
  • Best practices for Shopify and headless builds
  • Performance and accessibility improvements
  • Clean front-end architecture
  • API integrations and workflows
  • Real-world fixes to the problems businesses face most

Think of this as a technical journal, but written for real people with real deadlines — not for textbooks.

My Areas of Expertise

Here’s a quick look at what I work with most:

  • Headless Commerce Development
  • Shopify Plus Custom Builds
  • React.js & Next.js
  • Node.js
  • GraphQL
  • Liquid
  • API Integration
  • Front-End Architecture
  • UI/UX Optimization
  • Performance & Accessibility Enhancements

If any of these topics interest you — or if there’s a particular challenge your team is facing — I’m here to help unpack it.

What Do You Want to Learn?

Before I dive into the next article, I’d love to hear from you.

Which areas should I focus on first? Do you want in-depth tutorials, quick fixes, architectural breakdowns, or lessons from real Shopify projects?

Your feedback will help shape what comes next.

Thanks for reading — and welcome to Debug Diary. More coming soon.
