Catinella’s “Piglet” takes a classic genre to an entirely new level

Andrea M. Catinella’s Piglet, from a screenplay penned by Harry Boxley, comes to digital platforms on Monday, 2 June 2025. You can pre-order Piglet on Apple TV. Piglet, with Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland serving as executive producer and Rene August listed as a producer, is certainly one of the better horror films released thus far this year.

The horror film, starring Alexander Butler as the titular Piglet, revolves around a group of friends on a camping trip. Camping trips, when it comes to horror films, immediately makes me think of the long running slasher film franchise Friday the 13th and the infamous Camp Crystal Lake. Catinella’s Piglet gives us something new to sink our metaphorical teeth into but, hopefully, not in the same way as Catinella’s horrifying villain.

During the camping trip, one celebrating Kate’s coming-of-age birthday, the group celebrate a significant birthday. Reaching one’s 21st birthday, in the United States, is a big deal. With Kate now being legally able to drink, unsurprisingly, the friends party like there is no tomorrow.

It is during the camping trip that these friends encounter Piglet. Piglet brutally murders one of the said friends. They soon uncover Piglet’s origins. Kate, as the film unfolds, must confront her past to survive the relentless killer.

Further to Butler, respectively portraying Kate, Alex, Susie, Judith and Dianne, Piglet also stars Alina Desmond, Lauren Staerck, Shayli Reagan, Valery Danko and Alina Varakuta.

This isn’t the Piglet you know. This Pork, not remotely kosher in any sense of the word, will chop you up into small pieces and have you for dinner. Anything he can’t eat will be placed in the freezer for another day. Yummy yummy, Piglet possibly thinks, as he chops his victims up.

Let’s not confuse the horror film with a family friendly production. Family friendly, obviously, Piglet is not. The titular Piglet views his victims as edible treats in the same way pork sausage and bacon lovers look at the food they love to eat. The film, when you see Piglet eating meat, might turn you vegetarian.

Catinella’s Piglet, despite significant speculation, is not part of the so-called Twisted Childhood Universe. Fans of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, released in 2023, were hoping for links. There are no pork sausage links here.

Whilst the mask seen in Catinella’s film might look similar to the one seen in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, in Piglet, we’re talking an entirely different cast and crew.

Other cast members, seen in various scenes throughout the production, include Jeremy Vinogradov, Tyler Winchcombe, Eva Ray, Jack Monohan, Tais Sholvie, Rory Forder, Jamie Langlands, Ema Ekaete, Max Arlott and Tommo Thomas.

Catinella’s Piglet, to reiterate the release date, comes to digital platforms on Monday, 2 June 2025.
