Between Water and Sky

A quiet moment beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge as clouds drifted overhead and the harbour carried the city forward.

This photograph was taken on my phone during a day out in the city. I wasn’t looking for a photograph when I spotted it. My eyes were wandering between the water, the skyline and the clouds when the Harbour Bridge suddenly became the centre of the scene.

For a moment, I couldn’t decide what I liked most about the view. The clouds filled the sky, the water moved gently below, and the Harbour Bridge stood right between them. It was definitely one of those moments I didn’t want to forget.

The only challenge was that I had just a few minutes to capture it. The ferry, unfortunately, didn’t understand the assignment and kept moving. Luckily, the bridge was still far enough away for me to take the photograph. Looking back, it turned out to be my favourite view of the day.

The sky was filled with clouds. Not the dark, gloomy kind. The kind that seem to be constantly changing shape and drifting wherever they please. Patches of blue appeared between them, making it feel as though the sky and the clouds were playing a game of hide-and-seek.

Right in the middle of it all stood the Harbour Bridge.

It looked enormous from where I was sitting. Stretching across the harbour beneath those clouds, it almost felt like it was reaching up towards the sky. Below it, the water reflected the colours above, adding its own touch to the scene.

For a few minutes, everything seemed to work together. The clouds drifted overhead, the breeze carried the fresh harbour air around me, and the ferry moved quietly across the water. There was nothing extraordinary happening, yet it felt like one of those moments when everything simply felt right.
