The number 83 represents the number of months we have left on our journey to becoming financially free. We have already reached Coast FI status. We are a mere 83 months away from breaking the golden handcuffs and escaping the Retirement Police.

It’s 83 more months to flip the calendar at work or home. Have YOU calculated how many months left to work for money?

To put it another way, we have 358 weeks until we achieve financial independence. That’s 358 more Saturdays to enjoy sporting events, vacations, and movies. That would be 358 more evenings before work to have the Sunday Scaries. At this point, we have not had the Sunday Scaries. The Sunday Scaries are when a person gets stressed out about going to work.

There is also something known as “Blue Mondays” given serious heart attacks, in particular, are statistically more likely to occur on Mondays. Blue Mondays often occur in the morning.

It’s 358 more weeks to play armchair quarterback about football, basketball, baseball, golf, or other major sporting events on Monday mornings at the water cooler.

Why Are The Numbers 83 and 358 Important?

Sure, the numbers 83 and 358, represent the same amount of time in our countdown to our FI Number. However, there is a psychology consciousness in thinking about how long we plan to do something.

Dare say, we have written about our attachment to work. It’s true that we are self-identified workaholics. Even when we are not doing work related to work, we are often working in other forms.

We have never been beach vacation type of people. Admittedly, there is something about walking along the beach and having your feet and toes sink into warm or even hot sand. The tranquility of walking along a beach at sunrise or sunset is a beautiful gift. So we have 358 weeks of waking up at the crack of dawn to see the sunrise on a Wednesday.

I will not miss the traffic jams associated with most everyone on the expressway trying to get to their destination of solace on a Friday after work. Instead, we will be able to vacation travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday when everyone else is heading to work. Nor will we have to vacation during Christmas and spring break and the heart of summer, when everyone else is on vacation. We’d like to think we have closer to 1,500+ weeks left to vacation.
