Snow Day play — Nintendo DS Lite: colors, brain games, sudoku, numbers….
In the last few days, with activities limited by snow on all the surfaces — including the streets — I have pulled out the sweet little computer that the sweet little GRANDdaughter gave me. It is an old Ninentdo DS Lite. It is pale pink and has a little stylus in a slot on one end. The stylus is easier for me to use than a finger-nail would be, even though the finger-nail was invented before the stylus. I am sure that there are newer, and better, DS Lite editions out now. But this is the one I have, and I really like it.
This little tiny computer would test me and give me a “brain age.” I don’t think I want to know. I have played some of the brain games — simple math used to be my best subject, way back in the day. In fact, I once made my living with financial records and quantitative analysis. These days — not so much. I performed at only “walking speed.” I missed simple little clues, like + to add and x to multiple; I mixed them up. I will keep trying.
My best performance so far is on sudoku — I am very proud to announce that I performed today at “jet speed.” It is surprising how much this little animation reinforcement pleased and motivated me. I know I’ll be back to work on that simple math game very soon. I can do this!
