At the beginning of the 17th century, the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes published what would become his main book, Don Quixote. Alongside other scenes that lead us to a similar interpretation, the most notorious scene in the book describes how Don Quixote charges -unsuccessfully, of course- against windmills and shows us not only how the main character is not seeing things particularly well, but mostly how he’s not willing to admit he’s wrong.

I can’t say the world has been exactly quiet over the last few months, but this busy, weird storyline of ours has some standout characters, like Don.

Don fights windmills, Don gets violently thrown to the ground, Don gets his lance shattered, and Don gets painfully dragged across the dirt, taking Rocinante with him. Funny enough, Rocinante is an interesting story in itself: in Spanish, it could be translated to a horse that was just elevated to a status greater than it was in the recent past, but just in the name.

Many of those who study and interpret the book point out that Rocinante is an extension and a perfect fit for Don -both are past their prime, present clear physical limitations, and seem to be great only in Don’s imagination.

Well, luckily (or not) enough, we have our own Don -the Trump one. Don loves to tell stories and tales about how great he supposedly is. Don loves to shout about all of the giants who are threatening his people (including windmills), and loves to shout how he’s fighting them. Don even uses a beast as his mount and pretends it’s much greater than it was just seconds ago by naming it that way, MAGA.

And, almost as if Miguel de Cervantes took some lessons from Nostradamus, he left us almost a perfect forecast about the future.

Our Don constantly makes up new enemies, throwing all the blame on them for the many issues he faces (most of which he directly created). Our Don constantly brags about how he’s fighting those enemies, even though none of the sane people can see them. When our Don loses those fights, he doesn’t admit he’s wrong, but he finds another imaginary enemy and drags his MAGA into the mud alongside him.

What our Don does every f*ing (pardon my French) day is to find another imaginary enemy to justify his own mistakes and incompetence -dark-skinned immigrants, trans people, other countries… As he charges into these enemies, he drags the USA into the mess, making its population’s lives worse and people suffer, and he brags about even more imaginary wins.

Don doesn’t admit he’s wrong, Don lies, Don deceives, Don is corrupt, Don was convicted for crimes. Don is a pedo.
