January 2026 Recap: DragonSwap Becomes Saphyre

January 2026 marked a significant milestone for DragonSwap as the protocol transitioned to Saphyre, evolving from a Sei-native AMM into execution infrastructure for onchain trading.

From DragonSwap to Saphyre

This month, DragonSwap became Saphyre.

The infrastructure developed while building and operating DragonSwap evolved beyond a single AMM. Through scaling the protocol under real market conditions, the team identified execution challenges that extended beyond product features. The problems were structural.

Onchain trading operates in fragments. Retail tools prioritize accessibility but often sacrifice execution efficiency. Professional-grade systems exist but remain difficult to access. Infrastructure is typically siloed by product type, forcing traders to adapt their behavior to technical constraints instead of the system adapting to how traders actually enter the market.

January focused on addressing these constraints at the infrastructure level. The solution required separating execution logic from access points: building a single execution environment that could be exposed through multiple surfaces without fragmenting liquidity or performance.

This approach allows a trader to open a mobile app, a liquidity provider to stake into the AMM, and a developer to integrate RFQ infrastructure into a wallet or protocol, all while interacting with the same execution stack underneath.

Building Saphyre

The transition involved consolidating DragonSwap’s proven execution layer and extending it across three distinct products:

Saphyre Mobile. The daily entry point for onchain trading on Sei, designed for traders who need fast and predictable execution without switching to desktop workflows. Development focused on balancing simplicity for newer users with execution quality that supports active trading. You can join the waitlist for early testing here.

Saphyre AMM. The Sei-native liquidity layer that provides baseline execution for the broader system. This always-on liquidity powers consistent execution across Saphyre, providing reliable coverage when markets are thin or routing falls back to the base layer.

Saphyre PRO. Multichain RFQ infrastructure for wallets, applications, and protocols that require professional-grade execution. The focus here was on building infrastructure that teams could integrate while retaining full control over their frontend and user experience. Saphyre handles routing and execution underneath, maintaining a clear separation between infrastructure and distribution.

Technical Priorities

Development throughout January prioritized three areas:

Unified Execution. Ensuring that the products operate on the same execution stack, preventing liquidity fragmentation, and maintaining consistent performance across access points.

Infrastructure Neutrality. Building PRO as neutral infrastructure that extends the execution layer beyond Sei without competing with the wallets, applications, or protocols that integrate it.

Operational Continuity. Preserving execution quality and reliability for existing DragonSwap users throughout the transition. Positions remained active, the AMM stayed live, and liquidity providers experienced no operational disruption.

Saphyre is designed to make execution infrastructure increasingly invisible to end users while remaining reliable across the tools they already use.

2025 Foundation

The transition builds on DragonSwap’s 2025 performance: $4.8 billion in cumulative trading volume, over 15 million swaps executed, and $3.5 million in protocol revenue generated. The protocol maintained its position as the leading DEX on Sei for the second consecutive year.

That foundation demonstrated what reliable execution could look like in practice. Saphyre represents the next phase: addressing execution constraints at the infrastructure level and building systems that scale across multiple access points.

DragonSwap established the foundation, and Saphyre represents execution infrastructure refined under pressure.
