As a ***working professional***, I followed the same route as the other adults.

Study for years in school and then college.

Get a degree, find a stable job, stick to it, and grow steadily.

It is the safest path for earning money with some predictability.

For years, I thought the same way that other adults think.

But for the last couple of years, I realized something terrifying due to some personal setbacks, losses, and the audacity of company owners who called themselves entrepreneurs without having backbone and principles to follow, I worked with.

Those emotionless spines, principleless dead beings, and unethical blood-suckers made me realise that paid employees must not stick to a job for the long term.

If you stick to a job for the long term and think you are a permanent member of the company, you are risking your life and income source.

I made the mistake and risked my life and all of the work that depended on my salary.

I learnt my lesson and decided not to hang my future on such a situation.

So I made a decision.

***Build a writing business***.

This decision changed my perspective on how I look at money, writing, and financial freedom.

Why I Chose Writing Business?

I am not someone who follows trends. I write because it is something that I always wanted to do.

It is the skill that I was born with. And learning it to fit in society for 9 years as a professional opened several doors for me.

This is the reason I chose writing over anything else in the world.

Earlier, I tried my hand in different forms of writing but failed due to my negligence and undecided attitude.

But after that incident, I learnt and began valuing my writing skills more day by day.

Now I don’t want to trade my time for more money; I want every piece of writing I write to work for me.

Why do I think like this now?

I realised, if my writing helps unethical blood-suckers earn in millions and create assets, why wouldn’t it work for me?

It will.

Right?

My Writing Business Goal Isn’t Made to Become Rich Overnight

Today’s writers or people who aspire to become one often search for “passive income.”

But for me, it isn’t my goal.

Having 9 years of experience in writing made me believe in my writing and stay realistic.

I don’t stay deluded now.

I am more practical and real than before.

And this realization is important for my writing business.

Biggest Lesson I Learned from My 9 Years of Experience as a Writer

Earlier, when I was struggling to build a career, I thought of the need for multiple skills to ***create multiple income streams***.

But after all these years, I learnt I needed only one skill to grow in my career.

And this skill is writing, which I was born with.

If you have one skill that gives you satisfaction, purpose, and opportunity to grow, it is the skill that is valuable, and you must cherish it.

For me, writing isn’t just typing words.

It’s communication, clear communication.

And the biggest hidden thing in every business is communication.

Writing Business Challenges Nobody Talks About

If you are also in the writing business, then let me inform you: building writing income isn’t easy.

For months, ***my articles haven’t generated anything on Medium***.

Till today, I haven’t earned anything, except some claps and comments.

You must be aware of this side of the writing business if you are into it.

I often feel I am stuck and writing just to get neglected.

It is the painful reality behind the writing business.

But giving up is not an option for me.

So I believe the same for you. That’s why you are reading it now and have reached this far.

And this feeling is normal.

If you are experiencing this period in your writing business, you are just some effort away from your reward.

Keep publishing and believe in yourself.

Writing Business System I Follow

After 9 years of writing for others, I stopped waiting for the right time to come to do what matters.

I don’t wait for a spark to lighten up my mind and heart for inspiration.

I’d rather follow a simple routine.

And I aim to write in a week:

• Two or three Medium articles.
• Pitch new freelance clients.
• Improve my digital product.
• Share older articles across social platforms.
• Learn one new writing or marketing skill.

That’s it.

Now, I don’t force myself to write 30 articles a month; instead, I only write a few articles I believe will offer value to my readers.

And try to stay consistent while writing and waiting for the remarkable results over time.

Why I Try Not to Depend on My Salary?

My bitter professional writing experience has taught me not to depend on a salary income, especially when I have a valuable skill to build the life I dream.

And I must use it wisely for my growth.

Today, I don’t see writing as a passionate hobby.

I see it as a growth skill and an asset that can multiply my earnings and free me from my labour.

Each article offers me a valuable experience, which has the potential to help others as well while expanding my portfolio.

The project I work on strengthens my belief, so I can walk towards more experiences.

Together, these articles create resilience and show me how far I have come.

And this feeling I have never experienced in my regular job. But I value it because it made me realise the potential and power of my words.

Advice for Writing Business Enthusiasts

Do you also want to begin your writing business? Don’t try to write every topic.

• Stick to topics that help you grow.
• Start writing on one platform.
• Write consistently.
• Build an audience.
• Slow down in between your writing sessions.
• Once you succeed on one platform, try another one.
• And always, think long term.

These are points I never knew when I started writing online.

But now I want to help those who really want to make it in the writing business.

Final Thoughts

Today ***I am refusing to depend merely on my salary*** because I learnt my lesson that traditional employment isn’t permanent.

You are replaceable.

But your skill is irreparable.

That is why I am honing my writing skill and learning the business of writing.

It is not about one salary. It is about creating the financial resilience and stability I crave.
