When I first heard about the UAE’s floating hospital off the coast of Al Arish, I thought it was just another humanitarian headline. Something you read, nod at, and scroll past.

Then I looked closer at the numbers — and realized this is something genuinely remarkable.

As of June 2026, the UAE Floating Hospital has treated 95 patients from Gaza since the Rafah crossing reopened . Five new cases arrived just this week . Each patient receives full diagnostic workups, surgeries, physiotherapy, and dialysis — all on a ship .

But here’s what really impressed me: this isn’t just emergency care. The UAE has launched “Step of Hope” — a programme providing prosthetic limbs to Palestinians who lost theirs in the war . The first phase will fit 30 to 40 prosthetic limbs, with each limb delivered within 21 days .
