How One Woman’s Dream Fish Farm Turned Into a Tadpole Tragedy

Today I couldn’t sleep; two people stood me up, so I have a million thoughts running through my mind. I decided to log into Twitter just to pass the time and keep myself updated.

I’m well aware that the platform is now a cesspool of misinformation; however, it’s a worthy read for the latest news, and it’s fun to read other people’s rants. So there’s that.

Anyway, I came across a certain post. This lady had decided to venture into fish farming around November last year just to supplement her income.

She was so excited about this; I know some of you can relate. You know that thrill you feel when starting something new. Anyway, she reached out to a fish farmer who sold her tilapia fingerlings.

In Kenya, Tilapia is very popular and fetches a pretty penny, so this lady knew she was set for life.

As we millennials do, she documented her journey on Twitter, perhaps to reflect on that moment in case she became successful, like a #TBT moment of some sort.

When she posted a picture of her fingerlings, she noticed something was amiss. Comments started flooding in. People immediately noticed that those weren’t Tilapia fingerlings but tadpoles!

She remained unconvinced, so she allowed them to grow for a while. In March, her fears were confirmed; her “fingerlings” had transformed into adult frogs.

She expressed her frustration on Twitter, and I could genuinely empathize with her pain. For one, she lost her investment and her time. Everything went down the drain. Plus, you know how frustrating it is to remove frogs from a pond.

I have never understood how someone can consciously know that they are deceiving others and go ahead with it. Are these conmen aware of the hardships and inconveniences they inflict on people?

How do they even sleep at night?

I do not feel any pity for such individuals when they are indicted and imprisoned for over 20 years, as in the case of American singer and rapper Sean Kingston, best known for his 2007 hit single “Beautiful Girls." He and his mother are facing charges for defrauding sellers of high-end vehicles, jewelry, and other goods valued at over one million dollars.

They essentially took possession of high-end vehicles, jewellery, and other goods by pretending to have paid for them using fraudulent documents. The are being charged with five counts of wire fraud. Sources indicate that each count could carry a penalty of up to 20 years.

I am very happy that the victims of Sean Kingston and his mother will finally get justice.

The woman who was deceived and received tadpoles hasn’t mentioned that she’s taking legal action. However, if she chooses to do so, I hope she gets the justice she deserves.

The world has no room for conmen. Fraudsters, be warned!
