A Day of Disappointment

There are days when disappointment, frustration, exhaustion, and failure all decide to show up at once. From the moment you open your eyes in the morning until you close them again at night, nothing seems to go right.

So here is my day of disappointment.

The day started with a minor accident on my way to work. I was riding my bike as usual when a three-wheeler suddenly turned right without signaling. The bike in front of me braked hard, I braked too, but it was too late. I lightly bumped into his bike and a small part broke off.

Honestly, I didn’t think it was a big deal. If someone lightly bumped my bike, I probably wouldn’t think much of it either. So I continued driving. About a kilometer later, the rider followed me, stopped me, and demanded compensation. He even accused me of a hit-and-run.

I mean, it wasn’t a hit-and-run. I just genuinely didn’t think it was serious.

Then came work.

The workload was already overwhelming. I had two proposals to finish and one major presentation to pitch. Things got worse when the online meeting started.

The internet was terrible, and the person responsible for running the meeting clearly wasn’t prepared. The client kept saying, “You can start,” but the presentation deck never appeared. He kept insisting he had shared his screen. No, he hadn’t.

We couldn’t hear the client properly. The client couldn’t hear us properly. Every time someone unmuted, it became a mess. Eventually, we had to move to our boss’s office because somehow the internet worked there. Our boss ended up sharing the presentation from his own computer.

It was embarrassing.

Then I noticed something even worse.

The deck I had worked on was completely messed up. The person handling the client had deleted slides, saved draft versions, forgotten to update the concept name, and didn’t include the final key visual. Basically, the client was looking at a half-finished deck.

The moment I saw it during the presentation, my heart dropped.

I rushed through my section as quickly as possible, hoping the client wouldn’t notice all the flaws.

And somehow, the client wasn’t helping either.

They wanted a trade show focused on wholesalers and retailers, which was exactly what our concept was built around. Yet they kept saying the core idea wasn’t strong enough and that we were focusing too much on execution.

We tried explaining the strategy behind it, but it felt like nobody was listening.

To top it all off, after the meeting, my line manager told me I had rushed through the presentation and failed to help the client fully understand the concept.

At that point, I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

After work, I decided I deserved a little reward: a hair wash and massage to wash away the stress of the day.

I had booked a one-hour Chinese-style hair wash.

When I arrived, they somehow thought I had booked a hot stone massage instead.

Apparently, another customer had booked that service at the same time and they mixed us up. They asked me to change clothes and lie down on the massage bed. Only when they were about to begin did they realize I wasn’t that customer.

Then they asked me to get dressed again and go downstairs for the hair wash.

At that moment, I was too exhausted to deal with it.

I was already there. It was their mistake. And now I had to put my clothes back on and move downstairs?

So I asked if there was any service they could do in the room instead. They suggested an oil massage, and I agreed.

Of course, because apparently the universe wasn’t done with me yet, they used the wrong oil.

Instead of regular massage oil, they used essential oil that created an icy, tingling sensation all over my skin. The entire hour, I was basically shivering.

After that, all I wanted was a comforting bowl of soup.

I arrived at the restaurant.

It was closed.

So I had to find somewhere else to eat.

And that was my day.

A day where every little thing seemed to go wrong. Nothing life-changing. Nothing catastrophic. Just one inconvenience after another until it felt like the universe had personally chosen me as its target.

But I guess that’s life.

Some days are meant for winning. Some days are meant for surviving.

This one was definitely the latter.

Let it be. Move on. Tomorrow is another day.
