It feels like everyone else is moving forward while stuck at 25
Turning 25 didn’t hit me all at once. There was no dramatic moment, no sudden panic attack, no big realization. It was more like a slow wave that you don’t notice until it’s already pulling you in.
At this age, life feels a bit weird. You’re technically an adult, but half the time you still feel like you’re pretending. You’re trying to make good choices, trying to look like you know what you’re doing, but deep down you’re thinking, “Okay… so when does the real adulting guide show up?”
And then there’s the pressure. Your social media feeds are full of people announcing promotions, business launches, engagements, dream trips, and another achievement. Meanwhile you’re just trying to figure out what on earth you want for dinner, let alone what you want to do with your whole life.
It’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind, even if no one is actually chasing you.
For me, 25 felt like being stuck between two worlds. On one side, the part of me that wanted stability which are good job, clear goals, whatever “successful” means. On the other side, the part that still wanted to explore, mess up, try random things, and change my mind a hundred times.
And honestly? I didn’t know which side I was supposed to pick.
The thing that I see is a quarter-life crisis doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s just quiet confusion. Sometimes it’s you staring at your ceiling at night wondering if you picked the wrong major. Sometimes it’s feeling jealous of someone else’s path even when you don’t actually want their life.
The shift came when I finally accepted that it’s okay not to have everything figured out at 25. No one does, some people are just better at pretending.
So I started taking things one step at a time. Not five years ahead. Not even one year. Just small, doable steps. Trying a new hobby. Fixing one bad habit. Saying yes to something that scared me a little. Saying no to things that drained me.
And slowly, I realized that being uncertain isn’t a sign of failure. It’s part of growing up.
These days, I don’t pressure myself to “catch up” anymore. I remind myself that timelines aren’t universal. That people bloom at different ages. That it’s okay to take the long way around. And that 25 is not a deadline , it’s just another year of learning who you are.
I just realize that being lost doesn’t mean you’re stuck. It just means you’re on your way.
