Importance of Citation and Paraphrasing in Research

In today’s session, I learned about the importance of acknowledging someone else’s work or research in academic writing. Citation is an important part of research because it shows where the information has come from and strengthens the credibility of the work.

We also discussed paraphrasing, which means expressing someone else’s ideas or words in our own language while still giving credit to the original source.

Another concept covered was the difference between primary and secondary citation. Primary citation refers to directly citing the original source, while secondary citation happens when we cite a source that has already cited another author’s work.

The session also introduced different citation styles used in academic writing such as APA, Harvard, and Chicago. Additionally, we learned about tools like Zotero, CiteSpace, and CyHub that help in organizing references and managing citations efficiently during research.

At the end of the session, we played a quiz on Kahoot consisting of 8 questions based on research methodology. The activity was fun and exciting, and it also helped us quickly revise and test our understanding of the concepts discussed in class.
