Under the moonlight, the last Dalmatian dragon, Meridijan, sulked beside a tourist-filled Zlatni Rat beach. His scales ached for medieval knights, not selfie sticks and cameras.
Suddenly, a flock of wild ducks paddled past, quacking in ancient tongue. “The Stone of Split calls,” their leader hissed.
Meridijan unfurled his wings, scattering sunbathers. He dove into the Adriatic, ducks in tow. Past Roman ruins, they found the stone — a glowing egg guarded by a gelato vendor. The vendor sneezed. The stone hatched. A tiny duck-dragon hybrid flew out, chirping. Meridijan wept. Finally, an heir to this ridiculous, glorious land.
