Two separate Maynooth incidents tended to by Kildare gardaí

Two unrelated criminal incidents in Maynooth, which both occurred a few days ago, have prompted action from An Garda Síochána (AGS).

Commenting on the first incident, a spokesperson for AGS said: “Gardaí are investigating reports of an aggravated burglary at a residential property in Griffin Rath Manor, Maynooth, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 1, 2025.

“Investigations into the incident are ongoing. No additional information is currently available.”

When asked about the second incident, the same spokesperson said: “Separately and unrelated, gardaí have arrested and charged a man following a serious assault at an educational establishment in Maynooth, County Kildare, which occurred on Monday, February 3, 2025, at approximately 6:50pm.”

The spokesperson continued: “A man (aged in his 50s) injured during the incident was brought to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment.

“Two other males were also injured during the incident.”

The spokesperson further said that a man (aged in his 20s) was arrested in relation to this incident.

The suspect has since been charged and also appeared before Naas District Court earlier today.

Further details

According to a programme which aired on KFM earlier today, a member of AGS provided host Eoin Beatty with further details about both incidents.

For the first incident (at Griffin Rath Manor), the garda explained that a number of people broke into the premises via the back door and stole a sum of money when they were confronted by the home owner.

The owner was subsequently hit on the head by one of the intruders and the owner also had a vehicle stolen from their property.

The vehicle was later recovered in the Ballyfermot area of County Dublin, according to the garda, and is currently “undergoing forensic examination”.

Regarding the second incident, the garda said that it took place at Maynooth University.

The garda added that the man aged in his 50s suffered “serious but not life-threatening” injuries.
