Film Courage: Do you ever give up on a screenplay?

Nick Morton, Writer/Producer: I don’t think I’ve ever given up on a screenplay, which is crazy.

It’s so funny to have you ask me that question because I can’t believe I have never given up on a screenplay.

That is nuts.

I should have given up on lots of screenplays, but I think if I started it, it’s because there was something about it that excited me.

The exciting thing about a screenplay to some degree to me is the puzzle.

How do you make the puzzle work?

And I just don’t get bored.

I get determined to make the puzzle work.

I will just go and go and go.

I’ll walk up and down this street just puzzling it out, puzzling it out, puzzling it out until I have it.

Sometimes the solution is imperfect and I recognize it’s imperfect, but it solves the problem enough to keep going.

I think that writing anything is an act of faith for me.

To start, you have to believe that you can finish.

I guess if I didn’t believe I could finish, I would never start in the first place.

And before I ever start, I know how it ends.
