When you think of building an AI product for solopreneurs, odds are, you’re not thinking about freelance sportswriters.
But most freelance sportswriters have zero clue that they’re solopreneurs. They work with, and not for, major outlets, and the rules don’t apply to them in the same way they do paid employees. Outlets can’t tell them what to do, for example.
I’ve worked as a freelance contractor AND as a paid employee for a major fan-driven sports & entertainment outlet. And I’ll tell you this much: being a freelance contractor was way, way better. No, you didn’t get job benefits, but who cared?
You had freedom. And the minute I realized that, as a paid employee, my freedom was gone, it felt more like going to prison as opposed to going to work for the day.
That self-inflicted hellscape was one major reason I turned down the salary raise, took one look at my assets, and said, “Alright, I’m building this AI for Solopreneurs PLR product because I got like eight months of disposable income.”
Since it’s PLR, as I’ve mentioned on my sales page and welcome emails, you can retool, rebrand, and resell this product. And with this series, I’ll be making copies of my own product and rebranding it in Google Docs — sharing my journey right here.
If you’re having trouble retooling and rebranding…
If you bought the AI Toolkit for Solopreneurs, the AI Growth Stack, and/or the AI Growth Stack Pro, you’re in luck, since I’ll be blasting every new article your way.
If you’re new to the game, or if you’re unsure how to retool, rebrand, and resell the Toolkit, this series will be a godsend.
You’ll also get a chance to check out each rebranded document, beginning with the AI Starter Kit — Section 1 in the Toolkit. And if you know sportswriters, or have any in your circle, take it home as a bonus.
The entire schedule will go as follows — I don’t put specific dates down since, as a freelance sportswriter myself who’s already put some of this to the test, my life can and will get crazy. That said, you can expect between 1–2 of these a week.
From AI for Solopreneurs to AI for Freelance Sportswriters Master Schedule
Phase I — Toolkit
Starter Kit: Showing freelance sportswriters how to best leverage AI — especially ChatGPT.
Email Automation Templates: Freelance sportswriters RARELY email, but what they don’t realize is that every topic they come up with can be ingredients for a digital product. That’s where I’m retooling these automation templates.
30-Day Content Calendar: Many freelance sportswriters post content for the sake of posting content, and have no set calendar. Before they know it, they’re falling behind.
AI Tool Templates: A lot of freelance sportswriters still think “AI is out to take their jobs.” In fact, their job’s safer with AI than any mainstream or employed sportswriter. It’s crazy tough for AI to outlast and outplay them in “story within the story” angles freelance sportswriters must use to survive.
Content Topics: You wouldn’t believe how many freelance sportswriters refuse to strive for the “story within the story” angle. And you’ll be even more shocked that they often “link dump” on social media.
AI Toolkit Action Guide: A lot of people buy, but very, very few implement. The AI Toolkit Action Guide — something I’ll rename to better fit sportswriters, will help ensure they actually use what they bought.
Phase II — Growth Stack
AI Tools Comparison Chart: Freelance sportswriters may need something other than Chat, Notion, and Zapier — especially if they’re starting out on a budget.
Productivity Hacks Using AI: Most freelance sportswriters could easily triple their content and their visibility. The problem? They don’t know how to. This will be a fun one to retool.
AI-Driven Customer Feedback System: Here’s where I’ll show you a major retool. Freelance sportswriters who don’t have a mailing list, a digital product, or a reviews/feedback section may think they don’t need this. But this is golden if the outlet they write for has an active comments section OR if they interact with fans via email.
Chatbot Script Template: Most freelance sportswriters won’t use this immediately. That said, if they venture into digital product creation, or if they start offering courses, seminars, etc., THEY WILL want this. For my retooled product, this is most likely going to be a bonus.
Webinar Script: Same goes for the Webinar script. Freelance sportswriters will, without a doubt, benefit from this. But most, especially if they’re working toward a full-time income, will focus more on writing and networking. But at some point, they will scale up.
AI Growth Stack Implementation Map: This one shows customers how to best implement the Growth Stack. Most freelance sportswriters WILL be new to this, so a visual on implementing the Growth Stack will take them a long way.
Client-Facing AI Systems Pack: This one’s ready-to-use language to share with clients or leads. In the freelance sports writing realm? It’ll use common emotional and mystery terms and phrases in headline creation — without sounding so boring.
Phase III — Growth Stack Pro
Scaling Mindset Shift: This might be the most important section for freelance sportswriters. They’ll think “doing more” is the key to success, when it’s actually “automating what you can” will show you success.
Advanced AI System Prompts: Most freelance sportswriters discuss whatever topic comes to mind. Before they know it, they hardly have an audience, and no true niche/story within the niche. I’ll be retooling this system prompt that will show them how to build on each topic at certain times of the year — preseason, regular season, postseason, draft, free agency, dark time (when nothing is going on and the league’s on break).
Automation Logic and Decision Trees: Again, most freelance sportswriters won’t kick things off with a mailing list. But a lot of them cover multiple teams and leagues. This will show them how to segment their list if they cover the Detroit Red Wings in one sport and the Arizona Cardinals in another and decide to invest in a newsletter platform/provider.
Audience Segmentation and Personalization: For many freelance sportswriters, digital or at least affiliate products are a major part of the overall landscape when they want to scale up. They can segment offers and advertisements toward certain members of their list here. As you can see, the Growth Stack Pro shows them how to think beyond relying on sports & entertainment outlets to pay them.
Content Scaling Engine: Most freelance sportswriters, even when they find something that works, fail to rinse and repeat. Even fewer repurpose workflows consistently. You’ll see streaks of Facebook, X, and TikTok posts, before they disappear into the cyber abyss. What’s worse? They often read the same. This one gets rid of that nuance.
Feedback Optimization & Iteration Loops: I can’t tell you how many freelance sportswriters fail at pattern recognition. They won’t record topics that take off, and they may spend hours scrolling through X, Reddit, or even team sites for a story. This optimization loop will guarantee they never need to guess another story again.
Offer Expansion and Monetization: Again, this one’s for the advanced freelance sportswriter. One who wishes to expand their affiliate or digital products once they scale to that level. This will take out all the guesswork.
Anti-Burnout System: A lot freelancers in general embrace “hustle culture.” Well guess what? This anti-burnout system destroys that.
Growth Stack Pro Prompt Vault: Intent-ready sequences. Even with all of the above, freelance sportswriters might still hesitate on sequencing out either workflows, or repurposing content. This Pro Prompt Vault gets rid of the anxiety.
Growth Stack Pro System Builder: It builds on the Vault, giving freelance sportswriters a step-by-step construction process on how to design each business system one at a time. Starting with building their article-to-social-post pipeline, and scaling up to product/affiliate to sale.
Pro Swipe Library: Email swipes for segmentation, optimization, and retention. Once freelance sportswriters scale up, segmentation and optimization will likely make color drain from their faces. This pro swipe library keeps them from freaking out.
Most likely, this will be a good 3–6-month project. Closer to three months, preferably, as I’m writing this in May and the NFL season “kicks off” in August with the preseason. Or, at least in time for the league I pay the most attention to — the NHL. They start in September, and I got a nice little network of hockey writers who could use this.
And I know you have a network of customers who can use this system, too. So keep coming back to this page, as I’ll be linking each segment of each article to this page. You’ll also get new articles via email. AND I’ll even send you the finished Google Doc so you can compare the AI for Solopreneurs PLR with my retooled AI for Freelance Sportswriters, giving you a complete visual.
See you on the inside!
