The long-awaited company has released the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) 3.0. It is the first major update after 2.10 which was released in April 2018.

Latest has comes with significant changes like core plate and additional plugins. User interface is very beautiful and easy to understand. Latest update provide usability that is not available in previous version. New version performance wise is better as well as provides compatibility on complex input data. GIMP 3.0 is the first version that uses GTK 3, which is a way more modern setup than the GTK 2 base that earlier versions used. GTK 4 has been around for a couple of years now, and they’ve got it in mind, but the idea was always to wrap up with the GTK 3. Switching to GTK 3 means there’s some initial compatibility with Wayland and better HiDPI scaling. Also, this lets GIMP users use multi-touch input, so they can pinch-to-zoom in the program, making it way easier to work with fancy gear like advanced drawing tablets. These cool features weren’t possible before because of GTK 2’s limitations.

Another thing that happened when moving to GTK 3 is a revamped user interface (UI), which now comes with support for CSS themes. You will get four themes in this release, right out of the box: light, dark, gray, and a high-contrast one for those who need a little visual assistance. They’ve switched to GTK’s header bar, which is normally used to merge the app’s toolbar and title bar into one. However, don’t worry if you liked the old way; GIMP 3.0 still keeps the classic menu interface to make things feel familiar.
