Giving Up Immortality for Taer Sadam / Curd Rice

The Spatter of mustard seeds, the nutty aroma of urad & chana dal in coconut oil, the smokiness of the dahi chilli that elevates everything, the sharpness of the ginger,

making his mouth water —

that’s what he woke up to again.

Taer Sadam. Curd rice.

The taste of home. The warm embrace of something familiar.

Was it his mother he missed, or just the curd rice she used to lovingly feed him on a hot summer day?

He had tasted the rarest bloods in six centuries — kings, queens, killers, saints, sinners.

He’d drunk from the most beautiful women, the handsomest men, the most powerful rulers.

He’d watched empires rise and rot.
